The Medical Director is the clinical lead and provides direct medical supervision and oversight to all clinical service delivery. Acts as the principal medical advisor to the project manager in all aspects of clinical delivery, strategic medical planning and medical resource management. The Medical Director is part of the senior management team of the Project.
The key roles and responsibilities of the Medical Director:
- Always be the patients advocate acting in the best interest of patients ensuring their rights, dignity and confidentiality.
- Overall clinical leadership for all medical activities on the hospital ship during deployments and while docked at the home port.
- Ensure the provision of high-quality patient centred care including the recruitment of doctors.
- Collaborate with Iqarus RMD, the client and the ships leadership team to develop and implement strategic plans for medical operations.
- Work closely with the project manager to manage medical resources efficiently including personnel, equipment and medical supplies.
- Enforce clinical governance policies and procedures to maintain clinical excellence.
- Implement quality improvement initiatives to enhance clinical effectiveness.
- Develop and coordinate emergency response plans for medical emergencies and mass casualty situations.
- Conduct and supervise regular drills and training for medical staff to ensure clinical readiness.
- When deployed make decisions in ethically challenging situations always upholding the highest standards of professional conduct.
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience:
- Graduation from an accredited WHO approved Medical University. Listed in World Directory of Medical Schools.
- Minimum 10 years practical experience in hospital-based acute medicine, anaesthesia or surgery.
- Remain in good standing with appropriate professional regulatory body, with current license to practice.
- Minimum of 4 years in an upper management position.
- Previous naval/ship/military experience ideal.
- Excellent understanding of Clinical Governance practices
- Good computer skills and the ability to operate MS Office with Outlook, Word and PowerPoint
- Offshore BOSIET/HUET training mandatory entry requirements
