Data Engineering Intern

Internship duration: Preferably 6 months, minimally 3 months

Sony AI is seeking a research intern with expertise in data engineering and data analytics (experience with artificial intelligence, machine learning, and closely related areas counts as a strong plus) to join our AI for Scientific Discovery team. Internships typically last 6 months (and require a minimum of 3-months duration).

During the internship, you are paired with mentors and work with them closely on all aspects of the respective project, from defining target problems to developing exciting new architectures and data processing solutions, to presenting the outcome of your vital work internally and at external venues.

You will:

• Contribute to planning, developing, deploying, and maintaining the AI for Scientific Discovery team’s data platform.
• Advance the current version of the platform further, particularly focusing on improvements to resource management, system scalability, and operational reliability.
• Contribute to the AI for Scientific Discovery team’s overall roadmap planning.
• Write reports and give presentations for internal and external audiences.

You will bring:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.
• Previous hands-on experience in developing, deploying and maintaining big data processing and analytics systems.
• Strong knowledge of big data processing and analytics technologies such as Apache Spark, Kafka and NoSQL databases such as Redis.
• Strong programming skills in Java, and at least one scripting language (preferably Python).
• Strong foundation in data management, software engineering and knowledge of distributed computing concepts.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Excellent oral and written English.
• The ability and the willingness to work as a member of a distributed team spanning several time zones and bringing together people from diverse cultural and personal backgrounds.
