This role is part of the Safety, Quality, & Mission Assurance team. This team is focused on monitoring and assessing processes that guide Blue Origin design, manufacture, and operations, ensuring system safety engineering, environmental health and safety, product integrity and continuous improvement processes serve the Blue Origin Mission and Vision.

As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers (use as appropriate), you will conduct internal production/process and manufacturing quality control audits and risk assessments. Prepares audit plans and understands the specific issues to be evaluated. Completes internal audits within established manufacturing and production controls to ensure compliance with in-house and external specifications and standards (i.e., GLP, GMP, ISO, Six Sigma). Develops formal written reports to communicate audit results to management and regulatory compliance agencies, if applicable, and makes recommendations as appropriate. May facilitate work of external auditors during on-site visits. May conduct vendor evaluation audits to determine qualifications. Manufacturing Quality Assurance work includes defining and specifying activities, processes, and standards to fulfill the quality requirements for a manufactured material, component, or product, building and maintaining the infrastructure and systems necessary to consistently ensure the timely delivery of quality products, auditing, monitoring, and determining the quality of manufacturing processes and/or outputs against defined internal and regulatory standards. Reporting and solving manufacturing process deviations and defects in finished goods.

Van Horn Specific information

Being at the heart of Blue Origin operations, the West Texas Site in Van Horn, TX offers eligible employee’s additional attractive financial incentives to supplement their competitive base earnings, including a living allowance and relocation assistance. Eligibility for these additional benefits is based on the employee’s ability to permanently relocate to Van Horn, TX, or travel to Van Horn from another Blue location a minimum of 50% of the time.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead Root Cause Analysis events
  • Lead Continuous Improvement workshops and kaizens
  • Perform advanced data analysis on error reporting data to drive improvement
  • Investigate process non-compliances and document findings
  • Work closely with Quality Specialists and Maintenance/Test Engineers to analyze data and drive improvement
  • Present metrics and improvement opportunities in Corrective Action Boards and Monthly Operation Reviews to leadership

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum Quality experience of 2+ years and a B.S. degree in engineering or 5+ years of relevant experience and a B.S. degree in engineering
  • Experience supporting engineering teams to support test stands and launch operations
  • Quality assurance experience on test stands and launch environment
  • Mid-level experience in a test and launch operations environment
  • Familiarity with AS9100 or ISO9001 Quality Management System and/or related quality systems and programs
  • Ability to support test and launch operations for first and/or second shift throughout the week
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Aerospace, space launch, military/commercial aviation highly preferred.
  • Experience with quality tools such as Lean principles, Six Sigma, root cause analysis and corrective action
  • Experience with advanced product quality planning (APQP), process failure mode and effects analysis (PFMEA), control plans, and various problem solving approaches
  • Quality Management System audit experience
  • Quality performance measurement analysis capabilities
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt Certification a plus
