SAIT’s Information Technology Services department handles all software and hardware needs, as well as technological and networking issues for both employees and students who rely heavily on computer systems across our campuses. Technical support — which includes help with computer hardware and software technical problems, email, audio-visual needs and more — is available to everyone at SAIT, whether the problem occurs at home or on-campus.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Chief Information Security Officer, the ITS department is looking to hire an Associate Director, Enterprise Architecture. This role will be responsible for working with the CISO and ITS leadership team to envision and deliver on the digital business and innovation changes that will meet the needs and requirements the SAIT user community and global stakeholders. The position reaches beyond the immediate area of ITS and influences architectural needs (Enterprise, technology and solution) and decisions across the academic, administrative and research areas of SAIT.

The Associate Director, Enterprise Architecture will take SAIT’s business strategy and define the appropriate architecture, aligned to business capabilities to optimize business processes needed to support that strategy.

While the position typically works regular office hours, it may require afterhours, shift work, and long hours during peak times.

The Role

  • Strategic Planning and Oversight

  • Perform analysis of business structure and processes. Broad consultation with internal and external stakeholders and staff regarding the delivery of high-quality services to end users to draw conclusions and develop recommendations to support the goals of effectiveness, efficiency, agility, and continuity of complex business operations as SAIT strives toward an integrated viewpoint of strategy, business requirements and technology.

  • Influence information strategy. Broad consultation with internal and external stakeholders and staff regarding the delivery of high-quality services to end users to draw conclusions and develop recommendations to support the goals of effectiveness, efficiency, agility, and continuity of complex business operations as SAIT strives toward an integrated viewpoint of strategy, business and technology.

  • Enable enterprise information management. Ensure that the architecture is used as a lens and a filter to identify, prioritize and execute the data and analytic initiatives aligned to enterprise strategies and business outcomes.

  • Operations, Compliance, Governance

  • Maximize value derived from data and analytics to drive technology decisions to enable business outcomes. Foster value creation using the organization's data assets, as well as the external data ecosystem. This includes aiding value creation through data exploitation, envisioning data-enabled strategies, as well as enabling all forms of business outcomes through analytics, data and analytics governance, and enterprise information policy.

  • Surface information priority. Assess the benefits and the risks of information by using tools such as business capability models to create an information-centric view to quickly visualize what information matters most to the organization based on the defined business strategy.

  • Develop recommendations regarding who can take what actions with what information, and under what circumstances. Working with the CISO, assist data and analytics leaders across SAIT in developing information governance processes and structures.

  • Assist in identifying technology risk. Aid the definition of data classifications and data zoning to allow information assets to be immediately identified and proactively managed as more information becomes federated in a digital economy.

  • Define, design, and implement processes to report key performance indicators on Architecture service offerings and technology risk to ITS Senior Leadership and key stakeholders.

  • Leadership and Development

  • Enhance decision making. Use tools to provide the organization with a future-state view of the technology landscape that is unencumbered by the specific data implementation details imposed by proprietary solutions or technologies. Assist decision design.

  • Conduct business capability modeling. Create and manage business capability models in all their forms, including conceptual and logical architectures.

  • Aid in the analysis of data and analytics security requirements and solutions, and work with the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to architect and implement appropriate processes, policies, technologies and controls.

  • Identify, build and maintain effective vendor/partner relationships by understanding SAIT strategies and the alignment to vendor technology offerings.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum Required

  • Post-secondary Degree or Diploma in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, Systems Analysis or similar educational qualification

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience including architecture design and deployment, systems lifecycle management, infrastructure planning and operations, and developing Enterprise architecture

  • A broad, enterprise-wide knowledge and view of the business and demonstrated experience aligning strategy, processes and capabilities, and governance.

  • Experience leading technical teams with direct experience working with multiple Application Development Frameworks.

  • Experience evolving an aspirational and state-of-the-art architectural road map for the emerging technology enterprise.

  • Experience with various Firewall architectures and Network\Cloud Security concepts.

  • Experience with current DevSecOps principles.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of project management best practices.

  • Experience managing, prioritizing, and building consensus for services and projects that increase strategic value and generate return on investment.

  • Demonstrated success managing and sustaining organizational change and transformation, with the empathy, inclusivity, and transparency needed to build trust and partnership within the teams and units

  • Preferred

  • Master’s degree in technology related field or business.

  • 5+ years of experience working in a Post Secondary education environment.

  • 3+ years of experience in creating and maintaining enterprise architecture supporting emerging technologies including machines learning, Blockchain, and predictive and prescriptive data analytics.

  • Demonstrated experience designing and developing campus wide architecture initiatives and cloud strategies that drove innovation and improved efficiency in line with emerging technology strategy.

  • Demonstrated knowledge in the use of micro service architecture in reducing development complexity.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate trends in higher education practices and supporting technology systems.

  • Demonstrated experience using Private, Public, and Hybrid Cloud compute space in the delivery of innovative technical solutions, with a focus on scalable, reliable, and resilient platform design.

  • AWS Certified Solution Architect

  • Dell EMC Proven Professional Cloud architect training and certification

  • Strong Communication skills to Interact and communicate effectively with various levels of SAIT executive management, academic leadership, faculty and staff

  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts and context effectively to audiences with varying degrees of technical expertise and different levels of institutional responsibility (from frontline staff to governing boards).

Salary range: $113,000 - $130,000.00

Paid Leave: 4 Weeks Vacation / 14 Flex Days per year
