Job Summary:

As an experienced, hands-on marketing leader, you will help Venture Business Unit (VBU) portfolio companies analyze and optimize their marketing performance from strategy to execution.

The Alarm.com Venture Business Units (VBU) portfolio consists of a unique and fast-growing group of companies which Alarm.com has either acquired or incubated (e.g., Building36, EnergyHub, Noonlight, OpenEye, PointCentral, Shooter Detection Systems and several others). These businesses range in size and organizational maturity and several of the businesses can benefit from hands-on, tactical support across the marketing spectrum. Your job will be to ensure that the entire portfolio (initially starting with a subset) is fully optimized in its approach to marketing, from brand management, marketing communications, market research, product marketing, channel / account marketing, and lead / demand generation. This role is analogous to a marketing leadership role on a value creation team within a private equity or venture capital firm. You will also work closely with and collaborate with Alarm.com’s internal marketing team.

Reports to: Vice President, Growth Operations – Alarm.com

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • As the “CMO” of the VBU portfolio, you will assess the capabilities of each VBU and proactively determine how best to execute on an effective marketing strategy, whether that means to a) bring to bear the marketing resources of Alarm.com (as applicable), b) optimize existing or build marketing resources resident at each VBU, c) self-perform the work, or d) engage high quality 3rd party resources.
  • Utilize an agile, data-driven approach to marketing, and one that is keenly attentive to the buyer’s journey to help drive increased sales.
  • Assist with developing marketing strategy and managing annual marketing budgets for select VBUs.
  • Assist with M&A due diligence and contribute towards the development of a marketing value creation strategy for acquired companies.
  • Oversee omni-channel demand generation efforts (both B2B and B2BC) and support the team to establish KPIs to measure impact on company goals. Help teams execute across the portfolio of marketing channels, including owned (SEO, website, social, email, etc.), paid (digital and content) and earned (events, PR, etc.) with the goal to establish VBUs as industry leaders and grow user bases.
  • Produce and review actionable and accurate marketing reporting for executives at Alarm.com and across the VBU portfolio (e.g., tracking a robust set of marketing performance ROI/ROAS and key performance metrics); achieve robust data, attribution and continuous measurement reporting.
  • Coordinate closely with Alarm.com’s marketing team and other functional groups to facilitate sharing of best practices, implementation of continuous improvements and ongoing effective marketing programs.
  • Create and maintain documentation on marketing processes, policies, and relevant training materials and assist with onboarding new marketing talent
  • Partner with sales management to monitor and optimize the funnel conversion
  • Perform comparative analyses and reporting across the VBU portfolio and provide such reports to Alarm.com leadership
  • Help to lead and train a select team of marketing professionals across the VBU portfolio.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to develop and understand business and product strategies and translate them into actionable marketing plans.
  • Analytical and demonstrated ability to extract key business and marketing insights through data analysis
  • Very strong in lead generation, through various mediums (especially digital), ideally in both B2B and B2BC environments.
  • Strong network of third-party firms and independent contractors who can be utilized (when appropriate) in support of the VBU marketing execution.
  • Experience managing marketing budgets, robust ROI/KPI and full funnel reporting
  • Advanced skills utilizing a diverse marketing technology software stack
  • 10+ years’ experience in Marketing
  • Experience working for a private equity backed business is preferred, but not required.
  • Bachelor’s/MBA degree or equivalent experience
