About N-Power Medicine

N-Power Medicine aims to establish a new paradigm in drug development by reinventing the ‘how’ and transforming clinical trials through better integration with clinical practice, ensuring broader participation by physicians and patients. We are building an exceptional multi-disciplinary team with diverse expertise spanning healthcare, engineering, technology and regulatory, and with people who share our core value of Empowering Community through generosity, curiosity and humility. We are working with urgency to bring better therapies to patients faster.

Our organization specializes in generating clinical research grade data and we have recently implemented processes for clinical data generation, abstraction, and synthesis. To advance our understanding and software product development in this area, we are currently seeking a entry level summer intern to contribute to the following areas:

PROJECT: Prototyping AI-based information retrieval systems. For this project there is potential to help develop AI and machine learning systems that use LLMs/NLP to abstract information from pathology and radiology notes, as well as synthesize such extracted information to templates, and subsequently use the structured information to write a medical note for a patient.

The intern is expected to have excellent computational skills and be able to navigate a diverse set of compute environments.

The summer internship is 8-weeks and is 40 hours/week. This is a hybrid on-site role, with attendance at our Bay Area office expected at least 1 day per week.

Role Objectives and Responsibilities

  • The intern will apply and develop LLMs to extract patient information such as diagnoses, treatments, mutational status, etc. The models will be designed to output structured data that can be used as input to protocol driven abstraction by clinical research staff as well as to template medical notes.

  • Document and data retrieval from EMR systems.

  • Data exploration and pre-processing.

  • Version control: The intern will use Git repositories for version control to ensure that all changes made to the code are properly tracked.

  • Documentation for the developed system.

Education, Experience, Behavioral Competencies & Skills

  • Currently pursuing a BS in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or related field.
  • Course experience with Machine Learning and AI, and/or advanced statistical topics: e.g., LLMs/NLP, Computer Vision, Causal analysis, Survival Analysis, Experimental design (clinical trials), or Regression models.
  • Excellent programming skills in Python and/or R, ability to work across compute environments.
  • Results oriented and strong focus on delivering the goals set-forth.
  • Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Critical thinking and proven problem-solving skills.
  • Generous, curious, and humble.

Pay Information

  • The expected hourly pay for this position is $25. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
