The Avionics Test Engineering Lead will lead all phases of testing avionics flight hardware for E-Space satellites and development of associated test equipment, software, and processes. You will work collaboratively with engineers of various disciplines and lead all aspects of avionics test engineering from building and leading the avionics test engineering team, developing the avionics test architecture, hardware and software development, and execution of tests at the unit and system levels.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years of experience in electronics hardware related development and testing including 5+ years of test engineering leadership.

This position will report to the Director of Electrical Engineering and will work closely with the Electrical, Software, and Systems Engineering teams. The successful candidate will be based in our Saratoga, CAoffice

What you'll be doing

  • Grow the avionics test engineering team and then lead it day to day to execute the technical priorities of the avionics team and company as a whole.
  • Develop avionics test architecture for the satellite as well as specific PCBAs.
  • Develop standards and practices for test procedures and processes in collaboration with other engineering disciplines.
  • Design and build automated test platforms including custom PCBAs, harnesses, fixtures, software, and off-the shelf equipment.
  • Execute qualification and production acceptance testing including ambient functional and environmental tests.
  • Work with the spacecraft design engineers on DFT and DFM strategies.

What you bring to this role

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or similar.
  • 10+ years of experience in electronics related development and testing including 5+ years of test engineering leadership.
  • Familiarity with PCBA development including schematics and PCB layout.
  • Familiarity with software development including embedded software in C/C++, Python, and databases
  • Proficiency with electrical test equipment including power supplies, loads, oscilloscopes, thermal chambers, etc.
  • Strong documentation skills for test procedures, results, analysis, etc.
  • Demonstrated success leading a team in a dynamic environment.

Extra points for the following

  • Programming skills in Python and C/C++.
  • Proficiency with Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout.
  • Experience with mechanical design in Solidworks.
  • Experience with radiation effects testing.

$150,000 - $220,000 a year

The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position in question, which is based on market data and other factors, all of which are subject to change. Individual pay is based on location, skills and expertise, depth of relevant experience, and other relevant factors.
