About Muon Space

Muon Space is working at the forefront of satellites, advanced sensors, business intelligence, and climate science to allow humanity to close the loop on climate change. From satellite missions to modeling to data analytics and actionable insights, we believe measuring, understanding and predicting Earth’s complex, coupled systems is both a great business opportunity and key to leaving future generations a livable, productive and healthy planet.

About the role

Muon Space is building an expert team that is designing and generating value-added products from Earth observations from Muon’s constellation of low Earth orbit satellites and other geospatial datasets. We are seeking a Data Product Developer who will help to develop the algorithms and final stages of processing for the data coming from our spacecraft’s multispectral imaging instruments. This role will interact with both instrument engineering and ground data systems teams to ensure a deep understanding of the measurements being made as well as the infrastructure data flows through, aiming for generating the highest possible science data quality with the lowest attainable latencies in order to meet Muon’s goals in monitoring and addressing climate change.

Location: This position can be located in Mountain View, CA or Remote.

Responsibilities

  • Build beyond state-of-the-art data products from remote sensing observations
  • Support the algorithmic and software development of data processing pipelines
  • Work with scientists and data team to continually refine data products
  • Willingness to learn new topics as needed (measurements techniques, data platforms/tools, etc.)

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience working with data from remote sensing instruments
  • Experience developing geolocated and registered imagery data from satellite Earth observations
  • Experience developing geospatial data products and familiarity with common geospatial data formats (HDF5, NITF, COG)
  • Exceptional skills in python-based development and analysis
  • Ability to work with a distributed, interdisciplinary team (scientists, engineers, data support, all working at different locations)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of the theoretical design principles of scientific instruments
  • Familiarity with cloud native systems (AWS, preferably)
  • Background in common machine learning techniques/platforms (TF, PyTorch, etc.)

Equal Opportunity

At Muon, our mission embraces the entire planet and we believe our team should too. Muon is dedicated to creating a diverse and dynamic company and workforce. We believe in equal employment opportunities regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, age, national origin, citizenship, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, or gender identity. If you need a reasonable accommodation as part of your application for employment or interviews with us, please let us know. If you feel like you’re a good fit for this role but don’t check all of the boxes, we encourage you to apply anyway.
