Job Description:

The Principal Product Manager will play a critical role on our Product team leading a team through critical state legislated product changes and claim efficiency capabilities. You will partner with a strategic claims system vendor and key areas across the business to prioritize and communicate capabilities. The role will involve staying tuned in to state changes to PFML products and claim platform readiness. The ideal candidate is an experienced product owner with excellent communication and decision-making skills. The role will require a bias for action and a need to understand downstream technical implications of decisions.

Preferred skills

  • An agile development practitioner with strong experience using tools such as Jira and Confluence to create user stories and author product documentation.
  • Collaborative in your approach, appropriately engaging team members to accomplish your objectives
  • Flexible to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment in a professional and timely manner
  • Excellent verbal, presentation, and written communication skills
  • Self-starter that can work independently and part of a team.
  • Excellent organization, facilitation, and work breakdown skills.
  • Experience in Claims Management, Disability Insurance and/or Absence Management a must.
  • Experience in API technology and LIMRA data exchange between Insurance carriers a plus.

Qualifications

  • Seven or more years of professional experience working in a product-related role.
  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in business management or technical field is preferred

Responsibilities

We will expect you to:

  • Build a strong partnership with the claims system vendor and Sun Life teams.
  • Represent the multiple voices of the business by synthesizing information from different channels such as legal, product, claims, user community, learning & development, business process and financial teams.
  • Lead a team through backlog grooming, planning and estimation, and ongoing platform development by thoughtfully balancing customer needs with engineering capacity.
  • Maintain a prioritized and groomed product backlog that supports the company’s goals and objectives.
  • Become a Claims systems domain expert and take an active role in the market/carrier forums.
  • Drive the definition, data collection, and analysis of data for KPIs and product metrics to inform decision making.
  • Play a critical role in communication via multiple artifacts, business leader communication, author feature briefs and detailed release notes.
  • When necessary, work in conjunction with the technical support team to triage and assess production issues, perform impact analysis, communicate to business leaders and provide support to the engineering team to bring issues to resolution.
  • Be flexible and able to take on and master new topic areas quickly, run with project assignments independently and communicate regularly.
  • Be a team player with a strong work ethic and a curiosity to learn.

Southern California region: $123,900 - $185,900 annually

Central California region: $130,600 - $195,900 annually

Northern California region: $139,700 - $209,600 annually

If you are a Colorado or Nevada resident, the salary range for this position is $118,200 - $177,300 annually

If you are a Connecticut or Maryland resident, the salary range for this position $123,900 - $185,900 annually

If you are Washington or Rhode Island resident, the salary range for this position is $130,600 - $195,900 annually

If you are a New York resident, the salary range for this position is $139,700 - $209,600 annually
