Department Overview:

Neighborhood Strategies is part of NYCEDC’s Planning Division and, together with the Land Use and Ports, Transportation and Waterfront Departments, works to promote robust, inclusive growth in New York City’s neighborhoods and waterfronts. The Planning Division advances major projects that engage communities in planning for their future; helps build vibrant, inclusive neighborhoods; directs strategic infrastructure investments; leverages the City’s public assets; strengthens transportation systems; and promotes a strong public realm, economic opportunity, and climate resilience.

The Neighborhood Strategies department leads complex, multidisciplinary neighborhood planning efforts across the five boroughs, leveraging the policy tools and resources of NYCEDC divisions and City agencies. The team plans for large-scale public infrastructure investment and public-private development projects; conducts spatial analyses to identify and deepen understanding of neighborhood vulnerabilities and opportunities; and shapes and leads public engagement and outreach to meaningfully engage communities and stakeholders in inclusive planning.
