Aerospace and Defense Division Director

The successful candidate will be responsible for the growth and sustainment of the directorate. The Director's primary focus is to achieve annual growth by sustaining and growing existing business and successfully executing new contracts as they are won. The Director will also support pursuit of new business opportunities. The Director is responsible for recruiting, developing, and sustaining personnel with a cohesive set of skills and services to support execution and growth objectives. The Director must also manage corporate resources to enable the successful performance of the division’s project and task managers. This position reports directly to the Senior Vice President for Operations (SVP).

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Client Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients within the directorate, ensuring their needs are met and their expectations are exceeded. This involves building and maintaining strong client relationships through effective engagement and communication, and exceptional service delivery. In-person client engagement will be critical, primarily in the DC metro area.
  • Business and Strategic Planning: Develop and implement a business plan for the division in alignment with the company's overall goals and objectives. This includes analyzing market trends, identifying opportunities for growth, and managing risks and opportunities. Align with and contribute to corporate strategic planning.
  • Business Development: Lead and support efforts to identify and pursue new business opportunities. This includes cultivating relationships with potential clients, with industry partners, and participating in capture activities and proposal development.
  • Financial Management: In coordination with the SVP and the Director of Finance and Accounting, manage the division's budget, including forecasting revenue and allocating project and assigned indirect resources effectively to achieve profitability objectives. Performance Monitoring and Reporting: Manage and report on the division's performance against established goals. Regularly monitor and analyze performance data and trends to identify areas for improvement and make strategic adjustments as needed. Prepare and present reports to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Team Leadership: Provide leadership and guidance to division staff, including hiring, training, and performance management and employee recognition. Foster a positive work environment that promotes collaboration, innovation, and professional development.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration: Collaborate with other divisions and departments to leverage resources, share best practices, and drive overall organizational success.
  • Quality Assurance: Maintain high standards of quality in the division's products and services in accordance with the company’s Quality Assurance Program, ensuring products and services meet or exceed client expectations and industry standards.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and contract requirements, as well as internal policies and procedures. Identify and mitigate potential risks that could impact division or company operations or reputation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field; master’s degree and/or MBA, preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in leadership roles, with a focus on government contracting in the aerospace and defense market, preferably including space specifically.
  • Experience leading teams of more than100 employees.
  • Ability to lead and motivate teams, make strategic decisions, and effectively communicate with both internal staff and external stakeholders.
  • Experience managing budgets, setting goals, and evaluating performance.
  • Expertise in aerospace and defense, preferably including space expertise.
  • Keen understanding of financial management principles for budget oversight, ensuring cost-effectiveness, and maximizing profitability.
  • Familiarity with government contracting regulations, compliance requirements, and procurement processes. This includes understanding of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS).
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders, including government officials, clients, subcontractors, and internal staff.
  • Strong negotiation skills, conflict resolution abilities, and the capacity to build and maintain relationships.
  • Ability to think strategically and develop long-term plans to achieve organizational goals.
