Senior Backend Engineer

At the moment, this role is focused on:

• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand multi-team administrative requirements and designing scalable solutions.
• Helping the team to deliver a great user experience to administrators for managing large-scale enterprises.
• Leading continuous improvement efforts within your team.
• Troubleshooting and resolving technical issues related to the team’s domain as and when they arise, and being part of team’s rostered on call rotation.
• Providing on-call support for critical Canva services.
• Staying updated on industry trends and best practices to innovate and improve the domain owned by the team.

You're probably a match if

• Five-plus (5+) years of commercial experience developing complex, distributed applications with Java (our code is mostly Java 17).
• Disciplined coding practices, and experience with code reviews and pull requests. You model best practices to your peers.
• Strong communication and team collaboration skills, both written and verbal. A Canva engineer strives to understand the exact problem before jumping into writing code.
• While not required, commercial experience with protocol buffers is an advantage.
• All of our services are built on AWS. While not required, commercial experience with AWS services like DynamoDB, and SNS/SQS is an advantage.
