BIS Safety Software is a fast-growing Software as a Service (SaaS) company providing leading software for the safety industry. We’re seeking an experienced Accountant to join our team in Sherwood Park.

About the role

This is an in-person position based out of our Sherwood Park, Alberta office.

In this role, you will be expected to:

  • Perform Generalist Accounting Tasks: Complete various accounting duties as needed, demonstrating a broad understanding of accounting systems and operations
  • Manage Billing and Payment Processes: Oversee all billing and payment activities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Manage the General Ledger: Manage and reconcile the general ledger ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial data, as well as posting and reviewing journal entries
  • Prepare Financial Statement: Complete initial review and preparation of financial statements and management reports, including analyzing the data to identify discrepancies and report on your findings
  • Implement Internal Controls: Assess current workflows and data access to suggest and implement changes to minimize financial risk
  • Support Tax Compliance: Ensure taxes are collected and remitted accurately and on-time
  • Mentor and Support the Accounting Team: Work side-by-side with the accounting team to provide mentorship, build their skills, and ensure day-to-day activities and all required accounting tasks are completed accurately, on time, and in compliance with accounting standards
  • Perform Data Analysis and Problem Solving: Use Excel, Power BI, AI, and other tools to analyze data and provide insights and solutions to the controller and leadership team
  • Improve Processes: Work with the leadership team and controller to identify and implement new accounting technology, streamline cross-departmental processes, and submit tickets to the software development team to automate accounting functions
  • Identify Potential Areas of Revenue Loss: Analyze billing processes and accounting software functionality to identify opportunities for missed revenue

You might be the right fit if you:

  • Have experience in a wide range of accounting functions, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and financial reporting, preferably with operational finance or industry experience
  • Tech-savvy with proficiency in Excel and Power BI; experience implementing accounting software (e.g. ERPs) and AI to support the accounting and finance functions is considered an asset
  • Can demonstrate in-depth knowledge of accounting standards
  • Team-oriented, and have experience with and enjoy mentoring teams and building their skills
  • Exhibit strong problem-solving skills with the ability to implement solutions and adapt to changing situations
  • Possess strong analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and the ability to provide actionable insights
  • Can manage a high volume of work accurately and solve problems efficiently
  • Experienced with tax compliance (e.g. preparing and filing tax returns, reviewing tax bulletins for potential changes in tax practices)

Qualifications

  • Relevant accounting education or certification
  • Minimum 3 years accounting experience at an intermediate to senior-level accounting position
  • Technologically savvy with intermediate to advanced skills in Excel (e.g. pivot tables);Power BI, ERP implementation and AI experience is considered an asset
  • Previous experience in operational finance or industry-specific role is a must

$90,000 - $115,000 a year

Salary ranges are based on experience, reflecting the unique skillset each individual brings to the role. In addition to this salary, we offer full medical (health, dental, and vision) coverage as well as life insurance and disability insurance.
