We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Systems Engineer/ Cloud Engineer to join our dynamic IT team. The ideal candidate will play a key role in designing, implementing, and maintaining Endeavour Group’s systems infrastructure. As a Cloud Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of our IT systems.

Your responsibilities will encompass various aspects of Azure and GCP cloud infrastructure, like provisioning, design, automation, monitoring, optimisation, and security.

As a key member of our IT team, you will collaborate with cross-functional departments to understand business requirements and provide technical expertise, ensuring the seamless integration of cloud- & on-prem resources.

Here is a taster of what you can expect in this role:

  • Systems Design and Architecture:
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and design infrastructure solutions using Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
    • Work with architects to create infrastructure designs, blueprints and patterns that meet the business requirements of scalability, security, and performance goals.
    • Integrate on-premises technologies such as Windows and Linux operating systems into the cloud architecture.
    • Understand and implement multi-cloud patterns and architectures on Azure and GCP.
  • Resource Deployment:
    • Deploy and manage virtual machines, containers, and other resources on Azure and GCP following industry best practices.
    • Use Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles for consistent and repeatable deployment of cloud patterns and blueprints
  • Incident Resolution:
    • Diagnose and resolve issues related to Azure and GCP infrastructure services and applications promptly.
    • Support incident management and problem resolution, including troubleshooting Windows and Linux operating systems in the cloud.
  • Networking:
    • Utilise basic networking knowledge to troubleshoot production incidents, ensuring seamless connectivity and performance in Azure and GCP environments.
    • Work with network teams to address and resolve networking-related issues in the cloud.
  • Governance Policies:
    • Establish and enforce governance policies and procedures for resource usage in Azure and GCP.
    • Ensure adherence to budgetary guidelines and organisational policies within cloud environments.
    • Implement governance policies related to systems and network infrastructure in the cloud.
  • Cloud Adoption Framework:
    • Implement Cloud Adoption Framework and Landing Zones for standardised and secure Azure and GCP environments.
    • Optimise cloud spending and resource allocation using FinOps principles working closely with the Finops Capability Manager.
  • Performance Monitoring:
    • Monitor resources, applications, and services on Azure and GCP for performance, availability, and reliability.
    • Identify and address performance bottlenecks to improve efficiency and minimise downtime.
  • Automation:
    • Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell, Shell scripting, Terraform, and Ansible for provisioning and managing cloud resources.
    • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for consistent and repeatable deployments in Azure and GCP.
  • Backup and Recovery:
    • Implement backup and disaster recovery strategies for applications and data hosted on Azure and GCP.
    • Conduct regular testing of backup and recovery processes to ensure reliability.
  • Security Measures:
    • Implement and enforce security measures to protect cloud assets and data on Azure and GCP.
    • Ensure compliance with the Cyber Security policies, standards and best practices for data privacy and security in cloud environments.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Work with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and provide technical expertise on Azure and GCP.
    • Participate in knowledge-sharing activities and provide mentorship as needed.
  • Documentation:
    • Maintain clear and concise documentation of Azure and GCP architecture, configurations, and processes.
    • Document infrastructure configurations and processes to ensure knowledge continuity and compliance.

Requirements

Now let’s talk about you:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Cloud Engineer on Azure public cloud environments
  • Minimum foundational knowledge as a Cloud Engineer on GCP cloud environments
  • Tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Level 2 & 3 technical support and troubleshooting across a range of technologies (including DNS, DHCP, Networking, Wintel systems etc).
  • Windows and Linux Administration skills including the ability to troubleshoot a diverse range of issues across the cloud estate.
  • Experience with Cloud FinOps i.e. proven ability to recommend initiatives to optimise cloud spend.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps, GitHub and Terraform.
  • Experience with designing, deploying, and managing IaaS, SaaS and PaaS solutions across public cloud environments.
  • In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Azure services, including Azure Virtual Machines, Azure Networking, Azure Firewall, Azure Virtual Wan, Azure App Services, Azure Function Apps, Logic Apps, Azure Storage, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), etc.
  • Foundational knowledge of Google Cloud Services like App Engine, BigQuery, Cloud Bigtable, Cloud SQL, Cloud Storage, Compute Engine, Google Kubernetes Engine, Cloud DNS, Cloud Interconnect, Cloud Load Balancing, Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), VPC Service Controls & Identity & Access Management (IAM)
  • Working knowledge of ITIL disciplines.
