The Cross Product Methodology team is looking for a collaborative, results driven colleague to strengthen our capabilities. Situated in the broader Product Oversight & Excellence team, our role is to ensure consistency across Morningstar Sustainalytics’ methodologies, components, and inputs, enhancing our product suite's quality and client experience. Our responsibilities include harmonizing methodologies, setting technical standards, and employing statistical analysis to identify areas for improvement. We oversee ESG matters that cross product boundaries, requiring awareness of internal developments, external regulations, and industry trends.

We are seeking someone to complement the skills in our team and challenge us with new ideas and solutions. This role offers a chance to work within a wider Methodology and Cross Product Excellence team that fosters entrepreneurial thinking to drive enhancements in our product lines. You'll work closely with product managers, research teams, thematic experts and product developers to enhance consistency and quality at the intersections of our broader product suite.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform statistical analysis on cross product consistency, including change/impact analyses that affect multiple, interconnected products.
  • Establish, align and improve technical standards that are used in multiple Morningstar Sustainalytics’ methodologies, such as financial metrics and models, industry classification systems and corporate entity mapping rules.
  • Collaborate with thematic experts, product developers, product managers, IT specialists and research analysts on implementing new methodologies or methodological changes;
  • Write methodology documentation and thought leadership pieces;
  • Provide support to product managers as well as research analysts for any methodology related questions and preparing/coordinating the preparation of support materials and analyses.
  • Present to internal and external audiences including senior levels;

Competencies & Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Statistics or related sciences;
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience;
  • Structured thinker with strong analytical and conceptual capabilities;
  • Strong quantitative skills, including a solid statistical grounding;
  • Python skills are essential, other data software skills considered an asset;
  • Excellent communication and writing skills;
  • Organizational, project and stakeholder management skills;
  • General knowledge of sustainability, ESG investment approaches, and sustainability regulation considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of corporate reporting, business models and financial markets considered an asset.
  • Ability to work independently and within a strong team environment;
  • Embracing a strong business, strong purpose mindset.
