The Systems Engineer is responsible for supporting the Change management of the platform. Under limited supervision, the Systems Engineer is responsible for providing the following functions and outputs:

  • Coordinate systems integration activities with prime contractor including data reporting and exchange;
  • Oversee the integrating the various elements of the design and configuration control during the different design phases;
  • Support the integration of design elements and transition to verification and validation phase;
  • Finding integration solutions that support program execution while meeting the technical requirements of the engineering directorate;
  • Provide engineering advice to the Whole of Ship Director, Technical Director, and/or Chief Engineers;
  • Build and sustain relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Review and assurance activities related to Head Contractor verification plans.
  • Coordinate different streams of V&V and change data and perform detailed analysis to establish the applicability and terms of pull-through to the current platform.
  • Collaborate with the scheduling team to maintain V&V and change aspects of the Project schedule.
  • Work with the Project’s technical and commercial teams to enhance systems engineering plans and estimates. Skills knowledge transfer to the branch, within the scope of the role is an important and ongoing component of this role.

Requirements

Key Success Factors for Excelling in the Position:

  • A minimum of 8 years of broad marine engineering/Naval Architecture/System Integration and systems engineering experience in complex systems.
  • The candidate should be Technically or Degree qualified to a Bachelor degree level in a relevant technical discipline (e.g. Systems Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Naval Architecture or Physics);
  • Be familiar with ship design and operations and be able to demonstrate understanding of platform characteristics and the conduct of operational assessments;
  • Generally expected to have five years of direct relevant experience of working in the maritime community, and a strong technical background; and
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, good verbal and written communication abilities; and
  • The capacity to operate in an impartial and objective manner within a highly complex and challenging environment, and the ability to work independently with limited guidance and supervision, keeping relevant stakeholders informed of activities as required.

The position requires the following high-level attributes:

  • An ability to assess tactical, operational and strategic issues in engineering change management and program development
  • Experience and awareness of issues associated with platform and combat system verification and validation practices
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to engage with senior stakeholders and decision authorities and explain complex positions
  • An ability to influence thinking and advocate for the Project team’s interests across multiple program stakeholders with divergent interests
  • An ability to mentor and share experience and lessons with the project team membership to build organic systems engineering and verification management skills in the project team.
