CA Pay Range (Annual):
$112,000.00 - $208,000.00
At Infinera, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. Your actual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. This role may be eligible for equity grants, discretionary bonuses, or commission payments. The amount of these incentives is based on the terms of the Company’s incentive plans, the Company’s financial performance, and/or individual employee job performance.

The Optical Modules Group is looking for an individual to engage in the product development of coherent optical modules for high-bandwidth data communications systems. The individual will work with component design, system, and optical architecture engineering teams and engage in high-speed Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) characterization, design validation, and process evaluation for next-generation devices in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead high-speed, coherent optical module and sub-assembly test and RF test set development.
- Design of test plans and algorithms and execution of module performance validation tests
- Work closely with ASIC, PIC, module design teams, and the system engineering group to ensure the quality release of new products.
Knowledge / Skills /Abilities
We are looking for an individual with a strong background in either optical or electronic high-speed characterization:
- Fundamental understanding of optical communication systems, dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) transmission systems, fiber transmission penalties, photonic integrated components, electronic (integrated) circuits, and performance metrics (bit error rate (BER), signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), etc.)
- Proficient in using/programming high-speed optical and electrical test equipment (pattern generators, BER testers, high-speed sampling/real-time oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, vector network analyzers, etc.) and managing instrument control/data acquisition and implementing test automation using Matlab, C, C++, Python, VB.net or similar.
- Hands-on experience with either direct-detect transmission systems and/or coherent systems and digital modulation techniques (OOK, PAM, QAM, etc.) is desirable.
- Familiarity with high-speed integrated circuits (IC) modulator drivers and trans-impedance amplifiers preferred
- Knowledge of Digital Signal Processing (DSP) for digital modulation/demodulation is a plus.
- Ability to build, maintain, and troubleshoot complex test hardware and software in a cross-functional environment
- Attention to detail and willingness to produce detailed documentation
- Ability to work well in cross-functional development teams, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills
Education / Experience
Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years of applicable graduate-level and/or industrial experience in optical communications, photonics, high-speed electronics or systems. We will consider a Master’s degree with 3+ years of applicable experience.
