Are you a Research Engineer passionate about leveraging machine learning and remote sensing to drive positive social impact? Are you eager to join a team dedicated to tackling global challenges like food security and climate change with cutting-edge technologies?

As a Research Engineer on our AI4SG team, you will be at the forefront of integrating deep learning with remote sensing to address critical issues. Collaborating with experts, you will develop transformative solutions for food security, climate resilience, and disaster management, harnessing the power of the latest geospatial technologies and open-source earth observation imagery.

The Research Engineer must accomplish the following:

• Collaborate with the Research Team and other in-house experts to develop machine-learning methods for geospatial applications.
• Implement and test novel research ideas.
• Leverage classical and/or deep learning geospatial tools and large-scale remote-sensing datasets for downstream geospatial applications such as crop mapping/yield prediction, land cover/use mapping, land change prediction, disaster assessments, etc.
• Contribute to designing and implementing models, tools, and libraries to accelerate our AI4SG research effort.
• Adapt neural network algorithms to be deployed on supercomputing architectures to best exploit modern parallel environments.
• Report and present experimental results and research findings clearly and effectively, both internally and externally, verbally and in writing.
• Contribute to the team's publication efforts.

Who you are:

• M.S./PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related scientific field.

• Experience using Deep Learning frameworks like PyTorch, Tensorflow, and/or Jax.

• Ability to understand, replicate, and adapt to industrial standards research works Software engineering experience (Object-Oriented Programming, Unit Testing, Profiling, CI, Docker) via previous work or contributions to open-source projects.

• Excellent communication skills and collaborative spirit.

• Desirables

• Individuals in this role are expected to be accomplished in machine learning and software engineering.

• Contribution to open-source software development is a plus

• Experience with Xarray and large-scale raw satellite imagery would be a plus.
