Architectural Designer - Data Centers

Your Role

Manage, organize and coordinate with design team members to complete architectural projects, responsible for design development of projects from concept to construction documentation stages of work. Ensuring that production of design documents is in concert with the design intent. Resolve complex technical/design issues and provides guidance to team. Coordinate activity and communicate between design team and other disciplines. Comprehensive knowledge of architectural principles and practices locally and in the region.

What You Will Do

• Work closely with Design Director, Studio Director, Design Manager, Design team to develop architectural solutions from conceptual level through construction documentation
• Direct preparation of conceptual designs, space plans, presentations, design development
• Coordinate with Design/Technical team and Project/Design Manager(s)
• Coordinate with client team, project manager, construction manager and others to develop design deliverables, reports, construction documents, freehand sketches, responses to RFIs and queries
• Responsible for coordination and quality control of design and construction documents
• Review and manage project program and design deliverables
• Resolve complex design issues with innovative and practical solutions.
• Support project sustainability targets throughout project phases and actively engage in delivering them. Coordinate sustainability targets with project consultants and engineers.
• Implement sustainable design strategies in every project stage and investigate solutions to sustainable design challenges.
• Work collaboratively with the team to optimize sustainability performance through design iterations and research.

Your Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Architecture or Design preferred.
• 5+ years of relevant architecture and design experience, with a strong background designing multiple building typologies of varying scale including data center related projects.
• Proficient in design modeling/visualization tools including but not limited to Revit, Rhino, Enscape; having experience with Excel and computational tools like grasshopper/dynamo is also a plus.
• Proficient in production software including but not limited to the Adobe Creative Suite, experience working with video/animation software such as After Effect and Premier is a plus.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Outstanding graphic presentation skills.
• Creative, original thinking and technically biased, demonstrated through a strong creative and technical portfolio.
• Knowledge in sustainable design principles required.
• Previous experience in sustainable design projects preferable. Especially built projects with LEED, Living Building Challenge, WELL Building Standard, Fitwel and /or Net Zero Building certification.
• Demonstrate a collaborative and integrated approach towards achieving high sustainability project goals.
• Ability to develop collaborative relationships across the firm, with clients, and with other key partners.
• Fluent in Japanese and English both in verbal and writing

Your Design Technology Qualifications

Essential:

• Good working knowledge and experience in Autodesk Revit for design authoring, documentation, data extracts and project delivery.
• Good knowledge and experience with the strategic planning, and setup of BIM projects.
• Good knowledge and experience with collaboration within the BIM context, including cloud-based markups, consultant coordination and clash detection.
• Good knowledge and experience with interoperability workflows between Rhino & Revit throughout all the stages of a project.

Desirable:

• Basic understanding and familiarity in Rhinoceros for design authoring.
• Good knowledge and experience with real-time rendering processes, and material creation & management within the context of integrated BIM and parametric workflows.
• Understanding of the capabilities and application of Information Management tools such as Aconex, Asite, Newforma, etc.
• Basic understanding and familiarity with Computational Design applications such as Grasshopper and/or Dynamo.
• Basic understanding and familiarity with simulation principles and processes, including interpretation, and application of results.
• Basic understanding and familiarity with the use of VR walkthroughs and panoramas.
