About your team

The pace of change across our industry as well as within technology is ever increasing. Fidelity continues to invest in modernizing its technology estate alongside evolving our operations and ways of working. The Enterprise Architecture team has the important role to serve the needs of Fidelity by enabling the Business, Technology and Data strategies to flourish in order to realise the targeted business opportunities and value. Enterprise Architecture operates across portfolio delivery and enterprise domains, ensuring there is the right balance between what is sensible for the enterprise and the programme specific needs.

About your role

Global Platform Solutions (GPS) is one of the two main business pillars within Fidelity, incorporating our Personal Investing, Workplace Investing, Brokerage and Stock Plan Services businesses. GPS is going through a phase of rapid and substantial transformation of its business model as well as the Technology estate.

As the Lead Data Architect for GPS, you will provide leadership and Data Architecture Services to Business and Technology stakeholders, drive the data architecture strategy and align outcomes with the Business, Technology and Data Strategies.

This requires the delivery and ongoing management of a clear articulation of both the current and future state data architecture. By working closely with your Portfolio colleagues, you will develop roadmaps for the data transition stages to achieve the business strategy goals and support the value outcomes, whilst ensuring alignment to the Enterprise data strategy blueprint.

You will also be part of the global data architecture team working alongside your peers who lead data architecture for the other business portfolio functions (ISS and Corporate Enablers), along with a core group of Enterprise data architects responsible for core data strategies.

To give a sense of scale, Fidelity spends ~ $500m on Technology per year and about 30% of that is allocated to the GPS business. The Enterprise Architecture team provides direction and acts as guardian for this investment.

In this role you will:

Lead & Communicate

  • Lead the data architecture function for Global Platform Solutions
  • Be an advisor to the business and technology leads on GPS architecture and strategy.
  • Act as a senior leader within the Technology department.
  • Proactively communicate data strategy, decisions, roadmap and insight to technology and business colleagues ensuring comprehension and acceptance
  • Proactively input into and provide architectural leadership in governance forums.
  • Accountable for periodic communications on the portfolio data architecture; successes; challenges; issues; costs; progress towards Fidelity data strategy
  • Accountable for understanding the costs of data solutions within the Portfolio (CTB and RTB) and works closely with the Head of Data Architecture in reporting of such to the Head of GPS Platform Delivery

Strategize

  • Maintain a forward-looking perspective on emerging technology developments and their relevance to Business, Data and Technology Strategies.
  • Accountable for 12-36 month data roadmaps for the evolution of the GPS data architecture from current to target state and to seek sponsorship from senior stakeholders to achieve target state outcomes.

Architect

  • Responsible for understanding the goals and objectives of the business and to align the data architecture to support the business outcomes; taking into account Global GPS considerations.
  • Accountable for maintaining current state data architecture views for the GPS business unit.
  • Accountable for defining and maintaining the target state data architecture views, ensuring stakeholder support for the vision they that articulate.
  • Accountable for driving domain based conceptual data models for the portfolio, ensuring alignment with the enterprise data taxonomy.
  • Accountable for ensuring data artefacts are maintained, catalogued and accessible i.e. data sources, data models, current and target data state views etc. and integrated into corporate platforms i.e. LeanIX, Collibra, ERStudio etc.

Innovate

  • Participate in the development of new concepts to support business strategy and provide recommendations to leverage technology for competitive advantage, internal efficiency and improved service.
  • Participate in managing vendor relationships on new and existing products, evaluating usefulness and cost of products and making appropriate recommendations.

Collaborate

  • Support portfolio solution architects in the design of data solutions and ensures alignment to the Fidelity data strategy.
  • Contribute to the wider Fidelity data architecture strategy and blueprints; led by the Head of Data Architecture
  • Work closely with other data teams within the organisation e.g. Data Governance, Data Value team (MI / Analytics) and AI/ML teams, Data Services and the Data Lake function.

Deliver

  • Design and deliver the transformation of the GPS data estate, together with the Technology and Business teams.
  • Translate business needs into data architectures that align to global strategies, simplify the existing architecture and deliver cost saving opportunities.

About you

  • You have a background in data development, data engineering and / or data architecture.
  • A good understanding of financial markets, products and organisations.
  • A detailed understanding of data constructs i.e. data modelling, data design, data integration, data reporting and visualization.
  • An understanding of data lake architectures and best practices, including data migration strategies.
  • Cloud awareness and experience of the leading cloud providers and services e.g. AWS, GCP, Azure
  • The ability to convey and articulate complex, abstract technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proactive attitude and attention to detail in data planning, roadmaps and transition states
  • Experience with and comfortable in working with C-suite leadership.
  • Strong communication skills with different types and levels of stakeholders both internal and external.
  • Effective leadership skills including negotiation, conflict resolution, influencing, bridge-building and political astuteness.
  • Excellent and resourceful problem-solving skills, adaptable with a willingness to learn
  • Proactive and self-organising with a “can-do” approach.
