Description:

NewYork-Presbyterian is leading innovation at the intersection of world-class healthcare and machine learning. We are seeking a talented and motivated machine learning engineer to join the team leveraging extensive clinical data resources to develop, validate, and deploy cutting-edge ML technology. Examples include natural language processing of clinical text for summarization, or testing and use of generative AI models to analyze and interpret complex healthcare data. He or she will work closely with national leaders in ML for healthcare and join a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians, data scientists, software engineers, and data engineers to create scalable, AI-driven solutions to improve diagnosis, treatment planning, and patient care.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to analyze clinical text and other multi-modal datasets, and design and develop applicable AI solutions.
  • Maintain, perform in-context learning, and validate foundational models for clinical data
  • Fine-tune, evaluate, and optimize both foundation or bespoke AI models
  • Assist in the definition of milestones, deliverables, and estimates timelines for all assigned projects. Assume an ownership role of some tasks, as appropriate, and effectively coordinate across teams to reach defined milestones.
  • Develop data pipelines to collect, clean, and pre-process data for development of specific models and tasks
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure accurate data definitions and to validate quality of all data endpoints as required.
  • Contribute to processes for the continuous monitoring of model performance and model refinement/retraining to ensure accuracy, reliability, and scalability.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the end-to-end ML pipeline from data ingestion and cleaning to experimenting with predictive models to deployment of results.
  • Write, validate, and execute code to perform required modeling or analytical tasks by way of cloud and local compute environments (CPU or GPU).
  • Create informative and detailed reports, as well as data visualizations to summarize data and results; understand and evaluate appropriate performance metrics.
  • Actively engage in meetings with stakeholders. Contribute content to, and may lead, presentations or auxiliary discussions of summary reports with audience.
  • Follow best practices in documentation and use of code repositories, containers/environments, and version control. Work to ensure best practices are upheld and enforced.
  • Adhere to all institutional policies and practices for appropriate use and safeguarding of data.
  • Assist junior data scientists and ML engineers with tasks, as appropriate.
  • Maintain multiple projects simultaneously and functions effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Keep abreast of innovative technologies and approaches pertinent to data science, AI, NLP, and healthcare technology; evaluates their applicability and fit for current projects to ensure solutions remain cutting edge.
  • Perform other special projects and duties as assigned.

Required:

  • Graduate Degree in Medicine, Biomedical Informatics, Epidemiology, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Public Health, Economics, Biostatistics, Health Policy, Statistics, Biometrics, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of research experience in managing and analyzing data, and proven expertise working with clinical and research information systems
  • Strong analytic skills and ability to use a variety of software tools, particularly python and associated ML libraries (Pytorch, Tensorflow, LangChain, scikit-learn)
  • Experience analyzing and interpreting data, maintaining and managing large datasets, and ensuring the integrity of the data
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to excel in team collaboration as well as in independent work

Preferred:

  • Doctorate Degree in Medicine, Biomedical Informatics, Epidemiology, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Public Health, Economics, Biostatistics, Health Policy, Statistics, or Biometrics
  • Experience working with cloud platforms (eg, Azure, Databricks, Snowflake)
