About Shipium

Shipium is on a mission to solve the ‘Prime problem’ that modern retailers face today—how to make fast, free, and on-time delivery promises a cornerstone of the customer’s shopping experience. We work with both fast-growing companies and well known large retailers to cut costs, speed deliveries, and increase flexibility through great APIs, easy integrations into existing infrastructure, and powerful services optimizing the full retail supply chain.

We’re building tech that connects previously fragmented systems and automates complex supply chain decisions to deliver speed and value across operations.

Founded in 2019 by supply chain technology experts from Amazon and Zulily, the company is on a mission to help every eCommerce company provide its customers a great delivery experience while simultaneously reducing their costs to fulfill orders.

As a Shipium development manager for machine learning and data science, you will be managing a dynamic team dedicated to the design and operation of production systems for machine learning and data science at scale. This is a small team expected to expand rapidly, so we are looking for someone who has the management skills to support and grow their team while also having the technical skills to still be able to roll up their sleeves and pick up tasks in a classic startup style. Your team is responsible for developing and maintaining industry-leading machine learning models to support the applications our customers use to ship millions of packages and provide delivery promises to their customers. You will help your team build and extend high availability, high-performance machine learning applications at the intersection of modern supply chain and e-commerce. You will empower engineers, product, and data scientists with tools that enable and streamline data-driven decision-making, analysis, and feature development. You will report directly to Shipium’s CTO and work closely with other engineering leaders, product, and our CEO and sales teams to help us take Shipium’s top-of-the-line data resources and innovative use of machine learning to the next level.

What you will do:

-You will be a valuable member of the engineering leadership team and help us foster a cooperative, innovative, customer-focused technology organization.

-Lead the development of advanced automation tooling for data orchestration, evaluation, testing, monitoring, administration, and data operations.

-Inspire and lead the team, which includes Machine Learning Engineers, Data Scientists, and Data Engineers, by setting clear objectives, promoting innovation, and ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic goals.

-Create a high-performing team and foster a culture of technical excellence, continuous improvement, and collaborative problem-solving within the team.

-Work closely with your peers and product teams to understand the needs of the larger organization for applications of machine learning in their spaces, not just responding to requests but also actively thinking about where machine learning is the right tool for helping to solve problems across Shipium.

What you will bring to the team:

*6+ years of experience in software engineering, machine learning, or data science with recent experience in machine learning demonstrating mastery of advanced ML algorithms, frameworks, and technology platforms.

* 5 years of experience in Python and Python-based ML libraries, (Pytouch, TensorFlow, etc) Scala, or R for large scale data analysis

*Experience developing solutions using a variety of methodologies such as mathematical, statistical, and machine learning.

*2+ years of people management experience including highly effective conflict resolution, performance management, talent reviews, succession planning, and coaching low to high-level performers.

*Demonstrated experience in defining and maturing Data Science discipline including but not limited to driving data best practices, knowledge & tools, and MLOps.

*Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of leading diverse teams and driving cross-functional collaboration.Experience working in a high-growth agile software development environment, ideally with experience in B2B SaaS.

*Ability to influence and inspire others to positively impact decisions and lead teams through complex or ambiguous situations or challenges.Experience building and supporting large-scale systems in a production environment.

*Ability to communicate technical roadmap, challenges, and mitigation.
