WHAT YOU’LL DO

Middle Office provides independent control of trading activities and is responsible for validating the trading balance sheet in terms of completeness and valuation and ensuring the accuracy of P&L reporting. The team supports the business by managing key controls over trading transactions and providing timely and accurate financial information. This position provides independent control and valuation activities providing assurance over the fair valued balance sheet of Optiver. The essence of this role requires:

  • Accountability for the design, execution, and operating assurance of all trading book independent controls
  • Driving the Middle Office agenda across the organisation, ensuring new and emerging risks in our various products and markets are identified, escalated, and managed appropriately
  • Applying your knowledge of financial products and accounting standards to ensure correct valuation and accounting of financial instruments on the balance sheet
  • Partnering with Traders and other stakeholders to ensure position and valuation verification is adequately addressed in all new business activities.
  • Driving various technology and automation initiatives through the Middle Office team, working collaboratively with technology teams
  • Leading the broader Middle Office team on key initiatives and contributing to the active learnings and development of future control talent in the team

WHO YOU ARE

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or related field; CA/CPA or international equivalent; additional qualifications in Financial Instruments, Risk Management, CFA, or similar
  • Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • 8+ years in Middle Office, Product Control, Valuation, or Market Risk roles with expertise in valuation, risk management, and accounting for various financial instruments
  • Strong understanding of valuation, risk management, and accounting for both exchange and OTC cash and derivative financial instruments
  • Proficient in data analysis and problem-solving; experience with Excel, VBA, BI tools, SQL, Python and Alteryx highly regarded
  • Driven to succeed and collaborate with high-performing individuals
