About the Role

Join the forefront of innovation as a Cloud Engineer at Learning Pool, where you'll be a key player in implementing highly scalable, secure, and cutting-edge, cloud-based solutions. Our world-class online learning platforms are revolutionising the way people learn, and we need your expertise, creativity, and excellent communication skills to keep pushing the boundaries.

As part of an agile and dynamic team, you'll collaborate with product owners, developers, key stakeholders, and data engineers. Your creativity and technical prowess will drive the design, automation, and continuous improvement of our platforms, processes, and developer tooling.

With a diverse range of responsibilities, no two days will be the same. From scaling our SaaS applications to support millions of users to deploying Serverless infrastructure and developing self-service capabilities, you'll be at the heart of our technological evolution.

What you will be doing

Roles and responsibilities include:

  • Innovate and Build: Design and maintain high-standard infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC). Embrace an evolving landscape through continuous technology research.

  • Proactive Monitoring: Utilise Datadog, Newrelic, and CloudWatch to proactively manage infrastructure needs.

  • Enhance and Deploy: Perform seamless upgrades and deployments to our SaaS products.

  • Collaborate and Troubleshoot: Partner with support, development, CI, and QA teams to resolve infrastructure and application issues.

  • Automate and Document: Prioritise automation, efficiency, and maintain thorough documentation.

  • Containerisation: Leverage containerisation technologies like Kubernetes, Docker, ECS, and EKS to build and manage scalable, resilient, and efficient environments.

  • Provide Operational Support: Participate in on-call rotations

What we are looking for

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Cloud Expertise: You will have proven experience applying AWS best practices (or transferable skills from other cloud platforms). AWS Certified Solutions Architect Associate certified OR willingness to achieve the certification during the probation period (training provided).

  • Database Familiarity: You will understand metrics of relational and non-relational databases (MySQL, MongoDB). Optimise performance, manage access controls, and understand backup/recovery.

  • Automation Focus: You will have strong scripting skills and experience with configuration management systems (e.g., Ansible).

  • IaC Proficiency: You will have the ability to write and manage Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation).

  • Security Savvy: You will have a solid grasp of security concepts, especially identity and access management.

  • Communications: You will have excellent written and verbal communication for cross-team collaboration.

  • Delivering with others: You will have the ability to build positive working relationships with diverse colleagues.

  • Adaptability: You will have the ability to prioritise, juggle tasks, and remain responsive to business needs.

Although not essential, it would be advantageous to have experience working with the following:

  • Serverless Technologies: Lambda, API Gateway, Amplify, AWS SAM
  • Containerization: Kubernetes, Docker, ECS, EKS
  • Agile Framework: Experience working within Agile methodologies
