Due to the nature of the client engagements, every employee needs to be able to achieve Security Clearance.

This means that you need to have the right to take up employment within the UK, do not have or require any visa to work, and have been resident in the UK for at least 5 years without any gap(s) totalling more than 6 months.

You should be able to easily commute to our Manchester office. For some roles/projects, travel to the clients offices will be required and the frequency is often determined by the client.

Key responsibilities in this role include:

  • Manage the devops output of colleagues and projects as a DevOps Lead
  • Line manage up to 5 engineers
  • Be involved in setting DevOps department standards and technical direction, creating training materials and running “brown bag” training sessions for the wider team.
  • Support and Train junior colleagues under your line management, within your projects, and the wider DevOps department
  • Develop and operate cloud-based platforms / infrastructure (hosted on AWS)
  • Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code technical solutions (via kube/helm & terraform)
  • Apply DevOps best practices of automation, TDD and tooling to CI/CD pipelines (via Drone CI/CD)
  • Collectively maintaining team development and operational documentation
    (via Operational Runbook handbooks and Wiki Documentation)
  • Work as in a cross-discipline agile development team (managed via Scrum Agile processes)
  • Optional: Software development as part of a cross-disciplined team (Java)
  • Optional: Scrum master qualifications or experience, help project management by running standups and other agile ceremonies

Requirements

We are looking for you to have an interest in open source and a desire to contribute back to the community and other departments.

You will have:

  • Working knowledge of AWS cloud platform
    (preferably AWS’s cli, and it’s S3, Glue, VPC, Athena, MSK services)
  • Working experience with modern CI pipelines
    (preferably Drone CI/CD Pipelines)
  • Knowledge of (IaC) Infrastructure as Code Systems
    (preferably Kubernetes, Helm, and Terraform)
  • Experience developing tooling with at least one common scripting language
    (preferably Bash and/or Python scripting)
  • Experience working in an Agile Delivery Team, building SRE systems
    (preferability experience of Scrum/Kanban methodologies)
  • Knowledge of foundational DevOps technologies such as Version Control
  • Experience line managing Engineers, and the associated mentoring and train of up and coming Engineers

It would be great if you have :

  • Working knowledge of an operating kafka cluster
    (preferably on MSK AWS platform), control (Git), Linux, Containerization (Docker), HTTP, and IP networking
  • Experience developing software with at least one common programming language

(preferably Java and/or Python)

  • Knowledge of foundational Software Engineering technologies such as TDD (Cucumber), Unit Testing (JUnit), Linting, and Software Frameworks (Spring)

  • Collaborate meaningfully with all parties to ensure outcomes are reached effectively

Whilst having experience in a consultancy is beneficial, demonstrable experience in working with clients/external partners in other settings will always be considered.
