What you’ll be doing...

The position of Principal Systems Engineer - Antispam is responsible for development of and building applications that help analyze and filter spam messages from Verizon’s network. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading a team to develop tools and automation to increase integrated visibility into spam
  • Integrate data from diverse systems via APIs, including both well documented public APIs and Verizon internal; creating collectors and wrappers where needed
  • Using VCP, OpenStack, and Git/Source Code Management, as well as best practice
  • Programming of orchestration to automate end-to-end deployment of application VNFs
  • Partner with infrastructure organizations such as IT/NS, HQ Planning, Network Implementation, Maintenance Engineering, Performance, VCP, TEI, and DSO teams on cross-functional projects
  • Partner with Operations teams to actively understand needs for automation for anti-spam
  • Leverage enterprise resources, utilizing existing infrastructure where possible and creating integrations where needed

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Must be a current participant of the Department of Defense Skillbridge Program or of the Hiring our Heroes Corporate Fellowship Program Cohort 3-2024.
  • Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science or equivalent work experience required, Master’s degree a plus
  • Four or more years of experience in the wireless, telecommunication, or IT industries
  • Expertise with Linux Operating System or other UNIX
  • Working and Proven Knowledge of Programming or Scripting Skills, especially Python (Experience with Flask web framework, and/or other languages a plus)
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies such as OpenStack
  • Knowledge of Source Code and Configuration Management using git essential (Issue tracking, branching, and merging a plus)
  • Working functional knowledge and experience with consuming HTTP(S)-based RESTful APIs
  • Experience working modern configuration management and orchestration tools (Heat, Ansible, Helm, etc)
  • Experience interfacing with RDBMS a plus (i.e. Postgres, MariaDB, MySQL, etc)
  • Other experience which will be a plus but not a requirement: TCP/IP Networking, DNS, routing, load balancing, firewalls required, Linux, NFVO (ETSI SOL), 4G and/or 5G networks, monitoring, performance, and capacity planning tools a plus (i.e. SevOne, ELK, Grafana, Splunk, Tableau)
  • A solid balance between both technological and collaboration skills and abilities.
  • Excellent Verbal and Written Communication Skills, especially Technical Writing
  • Ability to learn and adapt quickly to an agile and fast evolving environment
  • Ability to read, evaluate, and contribute to designs, plans, roadmaps, etc
  • Working knowledge of MS Office and/or G-Suite

In this hybrid role, you'll have a defined work location that includes work from home and a minimum eight assigned office days per month that will be set by your manager.
