Job Summary
The Director Finance & Strategy Communications works to develop NiSource's strategic story with the financial press, investors, and other key stakeholders. Responsibilities include creating and evolving the financial communications strategy, crafting earnings scripts, understanding the enterprise OKRs (objectives & key results) to identify new angles that tell our business story, and generating media coverage. The Director is skilled at using creative, integrated business and financial communications strategies to promote and protect NiSource's narrative to Wall Street and developing narratives that reinforce NiSource's business strategy. The Director is a trusted and strategic communications partner who demonstrates a strong understanding of business and financial communications.

Essential Functions

  • Develops and leads key communications plans, proactive and reactive messaging for financial and business performance, including quarterly results, press releases, talking points, roadshows, earnings scripts, pitches, media lists, blog posts, and op-eds, preparing and supporting the development of appropriate news releases for distribution across all channels, developing executive-level briefing documents containing key messages, and Q&A documents.
  • Partners across the enterprise to drive and execute cross-functional, integrated media communications strategies for quarterly earnings, financial reporting, M&A announcements, and other key financial events.
  • Drives the communication of the CFO and other Officers to create, execute, and implement activities related to corporate communications, including media relations, thought leadership, content development, and digital/visual campaigns.
  • Provides strategic communications counsel and support to senior leadership on positioning and framing the company's business and financial results, focusing on business-critical topics and issues.
  • Develops consistent, company-wide messaging about the company's financial performance, strategy, and OKRs that can be understood internally and externally.
  • Develops strong relationships with financial media, critical stakeholders, and other market influencers and executes an integrated, multi-channel communications strategy to elevate the companyโ€™s financial profile and business objectives among the press, trade groups, think tanks, and other stakeholders.
  • Leads diverse team of qualified individuals with authority to hire, terminate, promote, demote, coach, develop and performance manage.
  • Identifies, researches, develops, and executes unique story angles, thought-leadership positions, content, and announcements that help advance NiSourceโ€™s achievements, business objectives, and positioning.
  • Stays informed on industry news, flags issues, and continuously monitors trends and audience preferences to identify opportunities for innovation and differentiation.
  • Defines and measures the impact of communications initiatives, contributing to a broader awareness and perception report about NiSource.

Required Qualifications For Position

  • Bachelor's Degree concentration in Finance, Accounting, or related field
  • 10+ years Experience in finance, financial communications, or investor relations
  • 4-6 years Public company experience
  • Strong understanding of corporate financial reporting concepts and terminology High
  • Strong writer with excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills High
  • Proficiency in absorbing, digesting, and distilling highly technical subject matter into clear and concise content High
  • Strong executive management skills High

Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position

  • Master's Degree
  • 1-3 years Proven experience deploying digital communications in support of financial narratives
  • 1-3 years Proven track record of developing and leading impactful communications strategies
  • 1-3 years Experience with investor and media relations software desired

Salary Range:

$150,900.00 - $226,300.00
