IT Computing Services Database Administrator

Job Description

Agilent Technologies is currently seeking an experienced Database Administrator to manage the delivery of high-quality database services. The Agilent Technologies database landscape includes over 400+ instances of Oracle and 2500+ instances of Microsoft SQL, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and AWS-RDS. Database platforms run on IBM AIX, HP-UX, RedHat Enterprise Linux, Microsoft Windows, and Oracle PCA — all integrating with NetApp, IBM, Oracle, or local disk storage. The Agilent Technologies computing landscape is about 85% virtualized.

You will be responsible for identifying, evaluating, recommending, and supporting solutions from both external vendors and internal partners. Your role will involve managing the relationships with information technology vendors providing outsourced services, assessing their performance, establishing and monitoring service level agreements, and driving improvements in database incident management and service delivery. You'll also be expected to develop, enhance, and test IT support delivery processes and solutions for IT infrastructure services, with an emphasis on standards, while also being open to creative and innovative problem-solving approaches.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master’s Degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Technology or MIS (or related field)​ with 4+ years of relevant experience.
• In-depth knowledge of all supported versions of Oracle DBMS, MS SQL Server, AWS-RDS, and MySQL architecture and best practices, including an understanding of cluster technologies such as RAC, Linux RedHat Cluster FS, IBM HACMP, and Windows/SQL Server cluster
• Understanding of OEM Cloud Control, NetApp storage, Data Domain, Networker/Veritas, BCV, SRDF, Systems Center Operations Manager, SolarWinds, and Cloud Service Providers
• Experience with operating systems: IBM AIX, RedHat Enterprise Linux, Microsoft Windows and VMware Virtualization

• Experience with Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN), SQL Server backups and restores
• Experience in Performance Tuning and Optimization, using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools
• Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for various database technologies
• Must be capable of overseeing the activities of the outsourced support team in daily incident management, as well as in daily maintenance activities and projects.
• Be able to assume a leadership role in resolving incidents that impact the Critical Production Environment and effectively communicate issues and their severity

• Demonstrated experience in effective teamwork and collaboration across infrastructure teams and business partners.

• Excellent English communication skills, with the ability to simplify technical jargon and relay detailed technical information to DBA, Server, Storage, Backup, and Network team representatives.
• Must be willing to adjust availability hours according to company priorities to address urgent matters during non-standard working hours, with occasional weekend and holiday coverage required.
