We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer to join our team based in London building the digital retail experience at the LEGO Group.

Core responsibilities

You’ll spend your time working in one of our multi-functional product teams building and maintaining the applications and services at the core of our shopper technology platform serving LEGO.com and our retail stores around the world.

  • Lead the solution design and build of efficient and reusable cross-channel solutions for our shopper platform.
  • Actively lead engineering strategy for a critical area of Markets & Channels Technology focused on both current requirements and long-term direction.
  • Partnering with engineering manager, product owners and architects to provide technical leadership within product squads and support the timely delivery of technical solutions.
  • You will work with other engineering leads to establish and advocate the best quality engineering practices across the organisation and drive initiatives focused on improving our overall engineering practices.
  • Proactively sponsor and mentor senior engineers across an area.

Working closely with Product Managers and Engineering Managers, our Lead Engineers play a key role in the team providing technical guidance and helping to make critical technical decisions ensuring that the applications we build are secure, scalable, accessible, maintainable and meet our performance expectations. Our teams are coming to the office 3 days per week.

Do you have what it takes?

  • Commercial experience with NodeJS and other JavaScript frameworks.
  • Experience providing technical leadership to a team working in a resilient and scalable microservices' environment – our API event-based services layer is built mainly on the AWS Serverless stack – Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, SNS, Kinesis and DynamoDB.
  • In depth understanding of modern CI/CD and engineering tooling – we use Amazon Web Services, GitHub Actions and Terraform extensively.
  • Experience with Site Reliability Engineering concepts including monitoring, observability, automation, and release engineering to create reliable and maintainable systems.
  • Extensive experience working with technical and commercial partners outside of your own team including third party vendors.
  • Actively work with the security team, as well as their own team, to refine their team's approach to security based on organisational security strategy. Champions a security first approach and leads by example.
  • Creator of an environment that drives continuous improvement and proactively analyses and improves applications that fall under the team’s responsibility.
  • Able to delegate engineering tasks to balance your workload and enable individual growth of other engineers.
  • Lead by example to create a safe and inclusive engineering culture.
  • Be an active contributor to open source or inner-source initiatives and communities and be recognised for your thoughtful and considered contributions.
