Junior Electrical Engineer

Your responsibilities

As a Junior Electrical Engineer within the Cabling Section of the Engineering Department (EN), you'll play a key role in expanding, strengthening, and maintaining CERN's signal and power cable installations, required for various systems within the CERN accelerators.

During the performance of your duties, you will contribute to the High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC) project by ensuring the dismantling and the installation of extended cable systems.

You will:

• Analyze requests for new cable systems
• Participate to site surveys
• Define cable routing taking into account technical constraints including cable trays occupancy, electromagnetic compatibility and safety rules
• Ensure the compatibility between the cable type required and the selected connector
• Revise cable list
• Prepare planning and cost estimation
• Create the documentation for the execution by CERN's contractor in charge of the installation of electrical systems
• Participate in the definition of the electrical lockout procedures
• Organize, supervise and ensure safety on your worksites, requiring interactions with contractors and CERN users from other groups/departments
• Ensure comprehensive and timely reporting
• Development of quality plans and procedures

Your profile

Skills and/or knowledge

• Knowledge in the domain of electrical cables for signal transmission and power distribution.
• Knowledge in the domain of connectors for signal and power cables.
• Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.

Eligibility criteria:

• You are a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
• By the application deadline, you have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Electrical Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
• You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
• Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
• Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.
