What This Job Entails:
The Network Operations Engineer is responsible for managing and troubleshooting Network Backbone Production environments as a network support engineer. This position demands the ability to work independently with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the production network and internet peering strategies.
  • Provide support for global production networks, including edge, backbone, data center, and POP.
  • Conduct day-to-day activities involving multiple vendor router & switches (Cisco, Arista & Juniper),and optical devices (Ciena, Infinera, Nokia) in backbone & edge inside POP locations worldwide.
  • Collaborate with multiple TAC vendors to address hardware issues.
  • Handle traffic and address queries raised by ISPs/partners.
  • Collaborate with ISPs/vendors to resolve network-related issues.
  • Support the team in managing network and traffic peering for Layer 1 to Layer 3 issues.
  • Demonstrate experience with networking technologies related to content delivery networks, monitoring capacity, and peering traffic.
  • Configure, build, roll out, and test new DWDM line systems deployments, including calibration, verification, BERT, etc.
  • Monitor Optical Long Haul and Metro networks, and troubleshoot a variety of issues in a timely manner.
  • Work on DWDM Deployments, Wavelength Deployments and Transport Deployments.
  • Drive the first level of escalations reported by the team.
  • Maintain accurate time and records in all service tickets.
  • Keep system configuration information within the ticketing system and ensure it is attached to relevant tickets.
  • Communicate with customers regarding ticket progress, changes, or agreed outages.
  • Escalate service requests requiring engineer-level support in a timely fashion to prevent the breach of SLAs.
  • Demonstrate the capability to derive data insights and report them as required.
  • Participate in 24/7 support with other teams across the globe.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • 5+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in fiber-optic technology, including cable types, connector types, optic types, patch panels, and optical transport technologies.
  • Experience with Content Delivery Networks and Internet Peering strategies.
  • Working knowledge of DWDM components such as ROADM, Mux/Demux, Amplifiers, Transponders, Channel creation, optimization, and extensive troubleshooting.
  • Detailed experience working with OTDR equipment to quickly establish fiber optic breaks for immediate remediation.
  • Experience in chassis installation, line card installs PCRs, and structure fiber installation.
  • Experience in device installation and testing, software/firmware upgrades, re-bootstrapping, and decommissioning.
  • Experience in network optimization (re-stripes, migrations, upgrades, swaps, capacity upgrades).
  • CCNA/JNCIA or equivalent knowledge.
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP.
  • Strong understanding and preferably hands-on experience in commonly used routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, MPLS).
  • Multivendor testing and support experience.
  • Solid understanding and configuration experience of Channel builds and cross-connect builds.
  • Good communication skills: ability to work with service providers and colocation facilities around the world.

Skills Preferred but not Required:

  • Experience working in a multi-vendor network environment.
  • Network certifications such as CCNP or JNCIP and higher.
  • Ciena and/or Infinera certifications or equivalent experience are highly desirable.
  • Scripting with Python, Bash.
  • Understanding of automation, DevOps, and the ability to work with developers to improve tools and workflows.

Salary Range

$127,184.48 - $200,817.60 USD (Salary)

  • Please note that the salary information provided herein is base pay only (gross); it does not include other forms of compensation which may or may not apply to this specific position, namely, performance-based bonuses, benefits-related payments, or other general incentives - none of which are guaranteed, may be subject to specific eligibility requirements, and are wholly within the discretion of Astreya to remit.
  • Further, the salary information noted above is a range that consists of a minimum and maximum rate of pay for this specific position. Where an applicant or employee is placed on this range will depend and be contingent on objective, documented work-related considerations like education, experience, certifications, licenses, preferred qualifications, among other factors.
