Join Australia’s leading life insurer as a Payroll Officer. Reporting to the People and Culture Payroll Manager you will join a close-knit team who are responsible for providing an exceptional customer experience, providing solutions, resolving complex issues, and providing quality production of payroll activities for TAL to ensure accurate and timely payroll processes and related services across the business.

This is a 12-month contract role, working flexibly from our Sydney or Melbourne office.

In this role you will:

  • Assist with the end-to-end processing and maintenance of the fortnightly payroll and ensure all data is accurate and paid in a timely manner
  • Process, calculate, and manage payroll adjustments, terminations, leave reconciliations, parental leave payments, and one-off (bonus/commission/ referral) payments
  • Administration of new starters
  • Award interpretation and Enterprise agreement interpretation
  • Respond to all inquiries from internal customers, within SLA standards aiming to achieve the first point of resolution while ensuring responses are compliant with relevant legislation and TAL policies
  • Administration of End of Fortnight, End of Month, and End of Year process reporting
  • Support the payroll system integration project team on the implementation of the new payroll system
  • Assist with UAT and SIT Testing, validating results and logging defects and performing any retesting
  • Assist with parallel testing, validating results and providing explanations for variances
  • Be the connection between Payroll BAU and the Payroll Project, assisting in preparing the Payroll Team for the new payroll system and processes
  • Support Payroll BAU Post Go-Live with day-to-day activities, and resolving any issues that may arise
  • Assist with process documentation, identifying existing/future state processes and opportunities for improvements
  • Proactively identify any risks in ongoing payroll processing and propose mitigations

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in Payroll with a company of > 1000 employees
  • Extensive payroll systems experience (Micropay, Meridian and/or Ceridian Dayforce preferred)
  • Experience working on a payroll implementation project
  • Strong computer literacy skills particularly Excel
  • Strong knowledge of payroll legislation including taxation, superannuation, terms, and leave
  • Award/Enterprise Agreement interpretation experience
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional customer service skills with a service-oriented approach
  • Highly organised, deadline orientated, excellent time management, and the ability to multi-task
  • Payroll system integration experience, preferred
