The primary function of the Health and Safety Officer is to develop, monitor and implement the organisation’s health and safety policy; to ensure the organisation is compliant with health and safety legislation; and to reduce or prevent hazards, dangers, and accidents. This role not only ensures the health and safety of the employees but also of the workplace, environment, and general public. Responsibility for the development of local site environmental and sustainability programmes aligned with Lindal Group expectations also forms part of the role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Co-ordinate the development of all role relevant policies, systems of work and procedures to achieve/maintain ISO 45001, 14001, 50001 accreditations.
  • Ensure a safe workplace environment without risk to health.
  • Ensure all role relevant policies, procedures, rules, and regulations are adhered to and are regularly reviewed, updated, and communicated.
  • Ensure the Company meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to the role relevant areas of responsibility, including statutory training and reporting.
  • Ensure the completion and regular reviews of risk assessments for all work equipment and operations.
  • Ensure that all accidents are documented, investigated, and recommended improvements implemented.
  • Ensure that safety inspections are carried out, fire drills and fire alarms are correctly reported, safety inspections, risk assessments and procedures are managed, and employees are aware of their responsibilities.
  • Ensure full and accurate health and safety and role relevant training records are maintained.
  • Establish a full programme of documented role relevant inspections, audits, and checks are completed.
  • Establish a structured programme of role relevant training throughout the Company.
  • Liaise with external consultants in the provision of training programmes and role relevant services.
  • Manage and devise the agenda for, chair, formulate & distribute minutes for the Health & Safety Committee meetings. Ensure that all agreed action points are completed within deadlines.
  • Keep up to date with all aspects of role relevant health, safety & welfare at work legislation and communicate relevant changes to the business.
  • Provide regular reports to the Plant Manager, Facilities Manager, Human Resources, and other members of the Management Team on role relevant activities.
  • Participate in meetings when required to report on role relevant matters.
  • Any other reasonable duties which may be required by management from time to time.

Technical Skills & Qualifications:

  • BSc in Health and Safety/Higher Diploma SHWW/ Diploma SHWW.
  • Demonstratable relevant experience in a Health & Safety Officer role.
  • ISOH and/or NEBOSH qualification or equivalent.
  • Manual Handling, Abrasive Wheel and Working at Height Instructor would be advantageous.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of staff and stakeholders.
  • Gathering, analysing, and reporting on key H&S data/statistics.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft packages.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Ability to work in and adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to co-operate with others to complete tasks and implement H&S process improvements. Competencies required for the role:
