Engineering Manager

(Central Tender Team Manager) as known within the business

Purpose

The Central Tender Team Manager, manages, evaluates, develops, and leads the front-line tender team, ensuring that the organization’s tender strategy is implemented effectively, consistently, and according to the established guidelines and budgets.

This position will be based in our Dublin Office and the successful applicant will be responsible for managing a technical team. The role requires travel to sites throughout Ireland (North and South).

Key focus areas include providing sales, engineering and customer support during tendering, order handling and project delivery phases.

The role is that of a working manager completing surveys, engineering and costing work whilst performing managerial duties.

Key responsibilities

  • Collects input and provides standardization opportunities.
  • Provides technical consultancy to Sales and Customers.
  • Participates in customer meetings as CSE (Customer Solutions Engineer) representative, impacts on customer specifications and understanding customer needs.
  • Participates in pre-tender reviews and order booking reviews to ensure solution meets customer, quality, safety, and compliancy requirements.
  • Costing management; understanding total costing, Front Line target costing, and planning for cost effective solutions.
  • Ensures compliant deployment of engineering policy, local codes, and standards.
  • Ensures safe customer solutions.
  • Provides high-quality inputs for Sourcing and Supply Line.
  • Provides solutions where full lifecycle management is considered; installability and maintainability are considered.
  • Conducts process performance management at Front Line level and drives actions to improve performance.
  • Provides technical and engineering support for sales teams and engineering departments in business fields of FRB & MOD covering Ireland (North and South).
  • Assists with LIS (Lifts in Service) identification for potential MOD (Modernisation) or FRB (Full Replacement) targets.
  • Completes site surveys (AMP-Asset Management Plans, FRB, TRB, EcoMod).
  • Provides equipment reports: AMP or other written condition reports, recommendations, and scope documents.
  • Provides detailed pricing (KTOC, MS Excel).
  • Provides detailed engineering calculations and drawings.
  • Reviews customer specifications and requirements; assists sales team with understanding the requirements and clarifying any ambiguities.
  • Attends customer meetings and discussions.
  • Provides lift traffic analysis studies, reports, and recommendations.
  • Liaises with both internal and supply line experts, external suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Completes price benchmarking activities with external suppliers and subcontractors and creation of/updating pricing documents for ongoing use.
  • Prepares and presents material for pricing committee reviews and engages in review/decision process. Adapts committee agreements into practical use.
  • Engages in pre to post project review meetings (P2P).
  • Manages and assigns workload (surveying, pricing) to members of the team considering priority, workload, skillset, location etc.
  • Actively contributes to further development of Customer Solutions Engineering capabilities in KONE Way.

Leadership & People Management

  • Leads the team to be proactive and professional with customers and collaboration with KONE colleagues.
  • Coaches the team members to achieve results through regular one to one dialogue and sharing of best practices.
  • Develops, motivates, and inspires the team and individual to high performance.

Skills & Experience

  • Proven team management experience and influencing skills in a matrix organization.
  • Ideally from lift industry background with technical qualification
  • Construction industry knowledge is essential.
  • Prior working experience in customer solutions engineering is desirable.
  • Technical or engineering background is desirable.
  • Be customer focused, understanding the needs of customers and the importance of providing solutions to satisfy short and long-term objectives.
  • Ability to work effectively in a highly complex, diverse, changing environment, whilst adapting to change and maintaining focus on key business goals and objectives.
  • Good communication skills, both written and spoken English.
  • Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Excel, SAP experience.
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Site surveying experience.
  • Pricing and estimating experience.
  • KONE product and process knowledge (preferred)
  • Understanding of lift industry codes and standards.
  • AutoCAD

KONE Specific Training (desirable but not essential)

  • Knowledge of KONE technical products; MOD products (ReSolve, ReGenerate, ReNova, HydroMOD, Eco MoD, MonoUpgrade, Non-KONE solutions), New Business Solutions/Full Replacement products; (MonoSpace, Transys, MiniSpace, Escalators, Ramps, Non-KONE solutions).
