About the Opportunity

Job Description:

The Business Manager will direct and coordinate the academic and administrative operations for the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering in relation to faculty, students, staff, advisory board, alumni, and donors. The Manager represents the Department Chair at all times and is the first line triage to key constituents.

This position will ensure effectiveness of the daily operations of the department, particularly in the area of administration, student support, faculty support and research procurement. The Manager is the first point of contact for all departmental queries including personnel issues, university policies, and other related queries. The Manager will execute a variety of complex responsibilities including the tracking of budget activity, developing expenditure forecasts, and advise the Chair of possible over-expenditures to ensure sound, accurate fiscal practices and policies; oversee all aspects of teaching and research assistantships and fellowship appointments at the graduate and undergraduate level. The Business Manager will work alongside the Chair on matters related to the management of space (i.e., research and teaching labs and office). as well as the performance review process for departmental staff.

The Manager will supervise the administrative staff members in the department by overseeing workload distribution and assignments, performance evaluations, providing opportunities for mentorship, training, and professional development. They will partner with College and University offices including human resources, finance, and student employment to ensure optimal student and faculty support is provided.

Based on work experience, this position is available for Business Manager or Sr. Business Manager.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required and 5+ years of administrative experience.

  • Experience in an academic setting is required.

  • At least two years of supervisory experience.

  • Strong knowledge of budget management and administration

  • Takes initiative to solve problems, entrepreneurial, and results-oriented

  • Understands the importance of governance procedures.

  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures preferred.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Must have excellent computer skills including, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Sharepoint, and Outlook)
