User Researcher

The NBCUniversal team is looking for a Senior Director of User Experience Research to drive the strategic product research vision for Peacock, building and aligning the user research roadmap to organizational objectives as well as solving for immediate product and design needs. This person will collaborate with cross functional partners across the Product, Design, Data Science, and Analytics teams, and will lead the research initiatives that help the team validate and evaluate features as well as the foundational research that helps define our future strategic product roadmaps. Reporting into the Vice President of User Research and Consumer Insights, the Senior Director will lead a team of user researchers as they represent the voices of our users, influencing senior stakeholders and decision makers across the organization.

About the job:

At Peacock we are working to build user-centricity into everything that we do. Peacock’s UX leaders help to illuminate new paths forward, defining the future of the product as well as the future of product design.

Our multi-disciplinary team is made up of UX Researchers, Designers, Content Strategists, Product Managers, Data Scientists, and Engineers — all of whom care deeply about our products and building the future of entertainment. You will join this team as a thoughtful team leader, manager, expert mixed methods researcher, and product visionary. You will be responsible for guiding the careers of your team members and working closely with them to help them realize both their immediate goals and their full potential as researchers.

As Peacock’s Senior Director of User Research, you will fiercely advocate for both the users of our products and for your team. As an expert in mixed methods research, you will field both qualitative and quantitative studies, including interviews, diary studies, surveys, focus groups, and ethnographies while collaborating with our Analytics and Data Science teams to marry qualitative, quantitative, and behavioral data to dimensionalize the needs of our users.

You will serve not just as an expert in the execution of UX research, but also in the business on NBCUniversal — balancing user insights with the business acumen that helps to build excellent products. You’ll collaborate with partners and other leaders across the organization to ensure that we are creating innovative experiences that resonate with consumers as our brand and products continue to grow.

Responsibilities:

  • Leading and developing a high-performing team of user researchers, providing guidance, mentoring, and coaching while setting new standards for methodological rigor and research excellence
  • Fostering a collaborative, innovative, and inclusive research culture
  • Partnering with stakeholders across the organization to define and prioritize research initiatives that align with business objectives and center user needs
  • Owning and driving the User Research roadmap, ensuring stakeholder and product needs are met and well aligned to achieve organizational KPIs and goals
  • Accountability for the quality of research outputs, ensuring a high bar for execution for user research throughout the product lifecycle
  • Vendor selection and management
  • Communicating research findings effectively, translating complex insights into actionable recommendations for key decision-makers
  • Influencing strategic and tactical product roadmaps with cross-functional leadership
  • Managing complex schedules across multiple projects to ensure on time delivery
  • Driving strategic initiatives to inform and shape research programs, cross-organizational collaborations, and product strategies
  • Collaborating closely with cross-functional leaders at multiple levels of seniority in Product, Design, Marketing, and Analytics
  • Connecting with other Research colleagues across NBCUniversal to share insights as well as lessons learned in conducting research
  • Staying abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies, continuously evolving our research methodologies and approaches

  • Deep knowledge of behavioral user analytics and how to incorporate them into UX research efforts
  • 12+ years of experience executing applied research
