What does a Payroll Officer do at Warakirri Asset Management

This is a newly created 12-month Max Term Position for a Payroll Officer. We are seeking a dedicated Payroll Officer to join our finance team, based in Melbourne with a hybrid working model (2 days in the office). You will report to the Payroll Manager. The ideal candidate will possess strong payroll processing skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to maintaining compliance and accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

• Process and review fortnightly payroll and leave calculations, ensuring accuracy and resolving discrepancies promptly.
• Record payroll journals and oversee monthly payroll tax returns to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with HR and finance teams to streamline payroll processes and enhance efficiency.
• Maintain accurate employee records and respond to payroll-related queries in a timely manner.
• Assist with payroll reporting and contribute to financial analysis as required.
• Support month-end payroll activities and ensure seamless integration with accounting procedures.
• Stay updated on payroll legislation and compliance requirements to ensure adherence.

Requirements

About You

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in payroll processing or a similar role.
• Proficiency in payroll software and systems; experience with ELMO or similar payroll systems is advantageous.
• Strong analytical skills with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with stakeholders.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of Australian tax regulations and payroll compliance requirements.
• Certification or membership with relevant professional bodies (e.g., Australian Payroll Association) is desirable.
