VCSEL Design Engineer

Huawei’s Munich Research Center is responsible for advanced technical research, architecture evolution design and strategic technical planning.

The Optical and Quantum Communications Laboratory in Munich researches and develops signal processing, components and systems for fixed access, data center networks, metro and long-haul optical networks. The department engages in local research and collaborates with academic and industrial partners from the European ecosystem.

VCSEL Design Engineer (m/f/d)

Your mission

• Design of GaAs based VCSELs
• Apply knowledge and experience in combination with simulation tools to define epitaxial structure, mask layout, and fabrication flow.
• Device testing including wafer probing and chip-on-carrier for static and dynamic characterization
• Analysis of large measurement data efficiently to extract useful results
• Deep understanding of semiconductor laser physics to correlate test results with design input for improving device performance via modeling and simulation
• Coordinate with semiconductor foundries and clean room engineers for wafer manufacturing and processing

Your areas of expertise

• PhD degree in physics, optoelectronics or other relevant major
• 7+ years of relevant work experience (incl. PhD)
• Experience with VCSEL design and wafer fabrication at 850-980nm in GaAs
• Experience with software tools such as Crosslight, COMSOL, layout tools as well as modeling and data processing (Python, Matlab)
• Thermal and electrical effect modeling
• Strong communication skills and teamwork
• Fluency in English
