Responsibilities:

  • Line manage 6 engineers (and growing), cultivating a high-performing culture focused on hard work and technical excellence
  • Deliver regular, actionable feedback combined with accountability that allows the team to improve and deliver quickly without compromising on quality
  • Take ownership of continuously improving and maintaining processes across various areas, such as product support, QA, and handling on-call incidents
  • Nurture a culture of accountability and ownership, empowering team members to take initiative and drive results
  • Challenge the team to set aggressive but realistic goals that ensure we are moving towards Odin’s objectives and help the teams grow
  • Work with Product to drive high-quality product releases that our customers love
  • Own the hiring process and help build a high-performing team with complementary skills. You will be key in ensuring that every new hire raises the bar and improves our standards as a business, regardless of their seniority
  • Work closely with the founders to align the Engineering team's goals with the company's vision and strategies, ensuring a cohesive and best-practice approach towards achieving our objectives

Salary

The salary band for this role is £90,000 - £150,000 + equity options. While this range may seem wide, it reflects that we'll consider where your experience falls within our framework.

You can weigh various factors, consider different perspectives, and make decisions that ultimately benefit the customer, the company, and the team
  • You’re ambitious and committed to excellence. You know that building something great requires hard work and time, but to you, it’s all worth it
  • You lead by example and are used to being held accountable for your team. You take ownership of driving the direction and make sure that everyone brings excellence to their craft with a laser focus on execution

Your Experience

Must-Have:

  • Successful Track Record in Engineering Management: You have a proven track record of success as an Engineering Manager, Senior Engineering Manager, or Head of Engineering. Your background showcases your ability to lead and deliver results in engineering leadership positions
  • Exceptional Hiring Skills: You have a demonstrated ability to build exceptional teams. You set a high bar for hiring processes and performance
  • Strong Technical Background: Before transitioning into an engineering leadership role, you built a solid foundation as a senior IC in a technical role
  • Experience Managing and Building a Strong Feedback Culture: You know what it takes to build an environment where feedback thrives. It’s second nature for you to give regular feedback that allows the team to improve beyond what they thought they were capable of
  • You have built a culture of speed and urgency in a startup: You know how to achieve it without compromising on quality and put the right processes in place
  • You communicate intentionally: You know how to communicate the right things to the right people through the right communication channels. You understand the role Engineering plays in building company-wide momentum

You won’t be a good fit if:

  • You exclusively hire individuals with experience in the exact tech stack we use. We value adaptability and appreciate candidates who can quickly learn new languages or technologies
  • You've only managed a team of engineers who are predominantly early-career or mid-career or who don't thrive with ownership or autonomy
