Primarily responsible for assistance in daily operations and maintenance of manufacturing processes for manufacturing of night vision system. Including but not limited to: optimization of manufacturing processes, implementation of cost reduction opportunities (yield and productivity improvements, waste elimination), review/disposition of night vision systems and components, and training production employees to improve work processes and product quality, work to minimize or eliminate safety, quality, delivery, inventory and production issues.

A successful candidate will have proficiency in the use of hand and machine tools, precision gauges, test instruments, and process equipment. Have an understanding and skills in effectively applying Six-Sigma tools to benefit the organization and customers. Additionally, the candidate will be versed in Lean tools and their application to reduce waste. This is a hands-on engineering technician position. The individual can expect to spend >70% of their time engaging directly with the factory teams on the shop floor to be most effective. Candidate will perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in an Engineering field (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Materials, etc.) or related work experience
  • 2+ years of technical experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Strong analytical abilities and trouble-shooting techniques
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Capable of performing process engineering tasks proportionate to their experience
  • PC proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required
  • Must have the ability to work effectively within a team
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills are required
  • Experience training others
  • Ability to obtain Security Clearance
  • Must be able to comply with OSHA, EPA, Fire Regulations, Company Policies and Procedures

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with review/inspection of mechanical assemblies, optics and/or soldering
  • Experience writing MS Access queries
  • Proficiency with statistical analysis software: Minitab, JMP, SAS . . .
  • Six Sigma certification
  • Ability to support the organizational culture and build morale
  • Experience in the following areas are a plus… glass manufacturing, fiber optics, machining, material processing.
  • Experience with various forms of thermal process (electric furnaces, atmosphere furnaces, etc.)
  • Experience with glass fiber draw or other glass forming operations
  • Experience with grinding and polishing operations
  • Experience with ultra-high vacuum equipment
