We are an educational service crafted to give our learners the techniques, tools, confidence, and inspiration to ignite their passion and develop skills in different aspirational subjects.

Some of the most experienced creators and experts in the world teach our courses in simple steps, such as Mark Ronson, Paula Scher, Brian Cox, Professor Tim Spector, Alan Moore and Julia Donaldson.

Since our launch in late 2020, we have introduced new course categories across health, wellbeing, business and design, improved multi-platform product experiences that help strengthen learning outcomes.

Looking to 2024 and beyond, we are evolving our market strategies to grow new revenue streams across B2B and diversify our audience base.

About the role

As Researcher you will support with the research, planning and delivery of our course content to help BBC Maestro create truly inspirational and engaging learning content for it’s customers. This is both an exciting and pivot role, as your work really helps define our business.

You will ensure the strategic ‘Golden Thread’ runs across the course experience; leveraging BBC Maestro brand and learning outcomes. You will work cross functionally with Product, Creative, Marketing teams to ensure this is across all touch-points.

Within our strategy team, you have accountability for market, competitor and customer research and for the development of key proposition materials for talent and B2B outreach.

You will leverage your research to help create concept briefs for each course, working with production teams to manage implementation across all stages, helping achieve desired learning outcomes for users.

You will review course performance, capturing key insights to ensure constant learning and improvement is achieved.

Responsibilities:

Talent Acquisition Strategy

You will carry out market research, utilising keyword research, social listening, survey data and more to assess which subjects and Maestro we should pursue.

Create business case for Talent Strategy to the wider team, arguing the commerciality of each suggestion against our subject and talent criteria as well as overall talent strategy.

Develop proposition decks, sourcing images, creating mockups, writing bios, finding quotes and suggesting lessons to pique Talent’s interest and persuade them to sign up. Manage compliance requirements as appropriate.

Evaluate course performance data, for commercial learning and user behaviour insight to inform future talent strategies.

Course Research and Insights

Leverage initial course research, carrying out qualitative & quantitative research into who and what audiences want specifically from the courses to help inform the production teams process in writing the courses.

Collaborate with Product Team to run user interviews, tests and surveys to understand what current customers and new audiences want from a course.

With the Strategy Team create concept briefs; outlining the key deliverables, requirements and metrics for the course to be a success.

Keep key stakeholders up to date with your research, creating insights docs to help inform course development, make suggestions to help increase the learnability of course.

Monitor course performance feeding back evaluations and insights into talent strategy and future course production.

B2B Development

Support the Strategy Team with B2B proposition work; carrying out ad hoc research into the learning market and potential B2B partnerships.

Create and/or update B2B proposition decks to fold in research, showcasing how BBC Maestro can offer compelling learning solutions for specific businesses.

Requirements

You have proven research skills, both primary and secondary research understanding consumer behaviours and trends. You may have experience within TV/ Media or for educational products and services. The type of research you're comfortable conducting includes:

  • Secondary research – market research, competitor analysis, trend reporting, forecasting
  • Primary research – user interviews, consumer panels, customer feedback and surveys

You demonstrate self leadership and accountability

  • You effectively prioritise your work with some direction, to ensure priorities are achieved
  • You demonstrate accountability for actions and manage expectations accordingly

  • You exercise good judgement and can evaluate the impact of your decisions and are developing a sense of what works well (drives revenue and solves customer needs) to improve processes.
  • You can work across various strategic initiatives and adaptive to the changing needs of a growing business and its consumers

You have exceptional communication and collaboration skills

  • You are comfortable communicating your progress and learnings with your stakeholders and manager
  • You share your work to solicit feedback on your approach and improve learnings within your discipline
  • You collaborate effectively with other disciplines, leaders and teams; having empathy for and listening to the needs of others
  • You care about company culture and see your own responsibility in creating a positive work environment

Benefits

The salary for this role is dependant on experience:

Associate level: £27,000 - £35,000

Mid level: £35,000 - £50,000

We also have 25 days holiday, plus public holidays and private medical cover.

Please note that we cannot proceed applications from overseas candidates neither do we have the facility to sponsor visas for work in the UK. Applications from candidates requiring visa sponsorship will be immediately rejected on this basis.

We will provide a supportive and flexible working environment for the right candidate and set them up to succeed. You’ll have regular 121s with your manager and the opportunity to develop close relationships with leaders across the business.

We’re an early-stage company and whilst we don’t yet have mature personal development programmes, we are careful to listen to the needs of our team and provide personal goals and objectives to support and challenge you in achieving your personal aspirations.

We have a lovely dog friendly London office 7 mins walk from Kings Cross station, which we ask people to work from 3 days per week. However, as we formed in the midst of the pandemic many of our team are spread across the country and so we rely on hybrid working practices.
