Role Summary and Purpose

The Assistant Underwriter provides general assistance to the Underwriting team. The Assistant Underwriter efficiently and effectively handles dedicated underwriting enquiries and tasks, whilst maintaining strict underwriting standards and processes within authority limits.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Enter submissions, quotes and bound policies in our underwriting system.
  • Undertake research activities, as directed by underwriters, for additional underwriting information from internet or other external sources.
  • Maintain accurate data records.
  • Assist in the preparation and presentation of underwriting quotation documentation as directed.
  • Assist in the preparation of management reports.
  • Assist in the resolution of outstanding premium receivable issues, as may be directed.
  • Liaise with external and internal stakeholders to solve queries, in person, via phone, email or online platforms.
  • Conduct general duties associated with day to day underwriting operations.
  • Be proactive in improving processes and communication with all internal and external stakeholders.

General responsibilities:

  • Collaborate effectively with other business units.
  • Adhere to company’s policies, procedures and local guidance as well as to the legislation.
  • Other reasonable duties as directed by the business, within the scope of the role.

Role Requirements & Skills

  • Experience working in the financial services industry - desirable but not essential.
  • Tertiary qualifications - desirable but not essential.
  • Demonstrate a proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
  • An organised and methodical approach to working practices and meet deadlines.
  • Sound analytical skills with the ability to prioritise while maintaining an attention to detail.
  • Enthusiasm and a desire to learn and contribute as part of a team, with the ability to work autonomously when required.
