Life as a Cloud Platform Engineer at CEF:

As a Cloud Platform Engineer at CityIT, you will be creating secure, scalable, and high-performing cloud environments using modern tooling and techniques in a serverless-first company.

This is a key role within our team, and you’ll be collaborating with almost every team in IT, while mentoring and supporting others by providing technical guidance, and helping them learn operational excellence and how to deliver complex solutions.

You’ll have a broad understanding of AWS services and how they interact with other tools and services. Alongside this, you’ll have an established background with cloud technology, or software engineering and infrastructure.

Your Objectives:

  • Deliver cloud solutions with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools
  • Analyse cloud platform needs and define technical specifications
  • Support and maintain bespoke enterprise-scale cloud infrastructure
  • Monitor cloud environments to ensure high availability and efficient performance
  • Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines
  • Write, review, and assure technical documentation such as HLDs, LLDs, Runbooks and Playbooks
  • Continually develop and improve your skill set to match the ever-changing technology landscape
  • Promote and evolve Engineering Practice, proposing innovative solutions or alternative approaches to complex issues

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Extensive AWS (Amazon Web Services) cloud infrastructure/platform experience
  • Demonstrable experience of Infrastructure-as-Code technologies such as CDK and Terraform
  • Proficient in a modern development language such as TypeScript or Python
  • Experience of implementing CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Gitlab
  • Experience with automated configuration management tools
  • Knowledge of Cloud monitoring and logging tools
  • Experience in containerisation
  • An understanding of Cloud security models and best practices
  • An understanding of Cloud design and architectural patterns such as Serverless and Microservices
  • Experience of working within an Agile Team using Scrum / Kanban

Interview Process:

  • Screening Call with Talent Acquisition (30 mins)
  • Technical Interview over Microsoft Teams with one of our Cloud Engineering Team Lead and a Senior Cloud Platform Engineer (60 mins)
  • Culture and Values Interview over Microsoft Teams call with our Cloud Engineering Team Lead and Head of Infrastructure & Operations (60 mins)

Location

Our IT Team like to get together in the Durham office on occasion. This is optional and the role is predominantly home based however there may be some required travel to the Durham or Kenilworth office for team meetings and other events.
