We are looking for an innovative Scientist to join our R&D team. The successful candidate will create novel solutions to evolving market needs utilizing the world-class DNA synthesis, assembly and NGS tools internally available at Twist. The ideal candidate has strong technical fundamental knowledge in NGS, synthetic biology or a related field with a strong publication record to support that.

Responsibilities

  • Independently lead novel research projects by designing, performing experiments and analyzing subsequent data.
  • Coalesce abstract concepts into tangible goals and outcomes.
  • Design and perform molecular biology experiments, including plasmid vector design, construction and cloning.
  • Innovate and create screening assays for DNA/RNA modifying enzymes.
  • Develop quantitative biochemical and quality control assays to characterize DNA/RNA modifying enzymes and enzyme systems.
  • Document experimental results, communicate data and outcome to stakeholders.
  • Stay updated on relevant scientific literature, trends and products.
  • Contribute to conceptualizing invented technologies as products to the genomics market.

Qualifications and Required Skills

  • Ph.D. or a M.S with 5+ years of experience in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or closely-related fields. Relevant post-doctoral or industrial experience is preferred
  • Strong background in fundamental molecular biology techniques including DNA/RNA purification and quantification, PCR/qPCR, Molecular cloning, Enzymatic assays and Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).
  • Experience in any one or more of the following: enzyme engineering, cell-free protein expression, RNA or single-cell sequencing
  • High attention to detail around determining complex experimental strategies including experimental design, execution, analysis, troubleshooting and review of new methods to facilitate product concept development
  • Strong knowledge and expertise in genomic sciences
  • Ability to draw conclusions, formulate hypotheses and determine next steps based on collected data to solve novel problems.
  • Dynamic interpersonal skills. Respectful and open to others’ views; contribute to building a positive team spirit.
  • Self-motivated, willing to learn and be up-to-date on current scientific literature or new research developments
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with occasional exploratory research projects that provide better understanding of an existing problem

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with various NGS library preparation techniques and hands-on experience using NGS sequencing platforms. Experience with WGS and illumina technologies preferred.
  • Experience with genome alignment, variant calling, annotation.
  • Experience with one or more specialized molecular biology aspects (i.e. specific knowledge towards DNA/RNA modifying enzymes, cell-free protein expression, protein engineering).
  • Programming experience (ideally Python) for manipulating and analyzing large datasets.

About Twist Bioscience

Twist Bioscience synthesizes genes from scratch, known as β€œwriting” DNA. Just as children learn to both read and write, the next phase of development for the genomics revolution is the ability to write DNA.
