Job Location: Remote

Pay: $50,000-75,000

Reporting to the Market Operations Team Lead, the principal roles of the Market Operations Analyst are, 1) review and certify ISO settlements 2) coordinate with the billing team to ensure billing curves are accurate 3) reconcile ISO volumes/costs and create a feedback loop to finance 4.) provide back up to Market Ops Analysts for functions included but not limited to Day-Ahead Forecasting and REC Operations/Compliance

This position will be responsible for working closely with trading, sales, enrolments, billing and IT.

In this role, you will be involved with the following:

Market Operations Analyst is expected to plan, structure and prioritize their day-to-day work in order to meet their objectives, the requirements of their manager and the needs of the project or activity. This may include coordination of other internal or external resources at an activity level. Responsibilities include:

  • Review and certify ISO settlements. This includes checking for completeness of data and identifying anomalies to investigate for potential errors.
  • Design and manage settlement workbooks and reports
  • Calculate settlement rate curves for use in complex billing calculations and forward curve calibration
  • Coordinate with Market Ops and Complex Billing teams to ensure there is consistency between which cost components are included in forward curves vs. billing curves
  • Reconcile historical retail and wholesale volumes
    • For use as an indicator of potential underbilling of customers or overcharging from the ISO
    • For use as an input for estimating expected true-up amounts for cost accrual
    • For use as a potential source for calibrating loss factors
  • Follow up with utilities and ISOs to resolve billing discrepancies, and document all relevant detail to support the dispute.

Other areas of assistance within Market Operations:

-ISO Operations and Load Forecasting

  • Work with team to ensure all ISO operational requirements are met appropriately, including forecasting, scheduling, UCAP auction participation, collateral monitoring, maintaining load assets, and supporting billing/finance.
  • Assist Finance group with operational matters, including ISO reconciliations, and monthly GM estimates for closing.
  • Assist team with Load forecasting/scheduling financial analysis

-REC Operations

  • Work collaboratively with trading, manage REC positions in all markets.
  • Ensure compliance with State requirements.
  • Assist team with REC Retirements

To be successful in this role, you are likely to have the following skills/experience:

  • Settlement experience in ISONE & ERCOT is preferred
  • 5+ years working in the deregulated energy industry
  • Graduate in a relevant discipline or area
  • Solid understanding of ESCO Operations
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to develop energy industry competence and expertise
  • Ability to rapidly comprehend ISO and LDC rules
  • Ability to develop comprehend the basics of the energy retail supply business, including pricing, sales and trading
