The Revenue Planning & Performance team exists to drive and optimise revenue performance and operations across our Customer GTM teams, enabling Xero to meet its commercial objectives. We are the global powerhouse for tracking, analysing and driving business performance. You will be part of the Performance Insights team within RP&P, which is accountable for delivering and maintaining the strategic and operational reporting, insights and analytics that drive GTM @ Xero.

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will engineer large and complex data sets, as well as build robust,reusable and optimised data pipelines, and administer data enrichment activities on a variety of Data Platform(s) in a reliable and secure manner for the users of the ecosystem.

Your data models will span our end-to-end customer journeys, across multiple systems, platforms and channels. They will support analysts in delivering meaningful insights in a clear, accessible and unambiguous way, matching the various rhythms of business with first class reporting and business insight.

You will contribute to technical standards, own substantial delivery efforts as part of a team and be awell respected leader in your areas of expertise.

What you’ll do

  • Typical activities may include building data pipelines for analytical data usage, data modeling, dataintegration and implementing ETL processes:
  • Actively contribute to improvements in our standards, processes and guidelines to accelerate
  • our maturity, both within your team and across shared services of the data group and Xero
  • technology groups.
  • Champion and guide the successful delivery of substantial outcomes as part of your team.
  • Develop a deep understanding of Xero's Domain and data strategy to help guide your teams
  • daily activity and decisions.
  • Support our hiring and team building efforts, including the option to mentor other
  • engineers should you have the interest and aptitude.
  • Be the go to specialist in at least one area of relevant technology or functionality in our products

What you’ll bring with you

  • Solid practical experience in engineering data for the purpose of data analytics
  • Clear and concise oral & written communication including technical documentation
  • Practitioner level skills in - large scale data integration and data management
  • Extensive experience with analysis,design, optimisation and development of database queries and ETL processes
  • Experience working with BI tools such as Tableau, including developing and implementing data models to support insightful and effective visualisations
  • Experience with cloud based technologies and databases (Preferably AWS and Snowflake)
  • Expert level hands on practitioner skills in building data models, pipelines, tests and macros using dbt
  • Proficiency in GitHub, including repository management, branching strategies, pull requests, and resolving merge conflicts, ensuring efficient version control and collaboration within the team.
  • Good understanding and experience measuring and designing for non-functionals, like reliability,availability, security and performance
  • Experience driving delivery at a senior level as part of a team building and supporting their solutions in an agile delivery environment
  • A track record of proposing and implementing improvements to technical approaches, processes and practices in areas of expertise.
  • Expert understanding of the various datamodeling methodologies, Inmon,Kimball, and Data Vault 2.0.
  • Experience working with BusinessOwners and Product Owners to gatherdata requirements and provide solutions
