The Footwear Designer will work closely with the Design Director of Shoes and Accessories to execute on all aspects of product concept and design as led by the Creative Director. Working closely with the whole design team, the Designer will partner on a continuous basis to successfully create premium product, supporting the consumer experience and the Canada Goose brand. The Footwear Designer will collaborate cross-departmentally to conceptualize and develop a strong Footwear product assortment appropriate for Canada Goose. Adhering to the Canada Goose core values, the Footwear Designer will be innovative, creative, passionate, relentless, and entrepreneurial. This role will be based in our new studio in Paris, with travel included.

Requirements

What You'll Do:

  • Work with the Design Team to observe and own seasonal calendar, as it relates to the company calendar
  • Responsible for researching designing a designated number of styles from concept to proto approval, managing up to the Creative Director
  • Manage and execute special projects with the support of the Design Director & Design Team
  • Responsible for working closely with Merchandising partners to ensure all designs support the business objectives
  • Work closely with PDE partners to communicate designs, updates/changes throughout the proto process.
  • Support in fittings on designated styles.
  • Lead work with the Materials department to develop and adopt fabrics and trims for designated styles/collections
  • Mentor and develop the Associate Designer on technical aspects of Footwear Creation
  • Lead development mock-ups to support seasonal concept
  • Travel to vendors and attend trade shows as needed to lead product research and development
  • Collaborate with the Design Team and Creative Director to create the seasonal color palette, owning a portion of the color direction development
  • All other duties as assigned

About You:

  • 3+ years of applicable working Design experience within a Footwear Design role
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer Skills; included proficiency in Microsoft Office, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and InDesign is essential. 3D Design is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative to achieve departmental and corporate objectives
  • Strong level of knowledge of Footwear product construction
  • Strong knowledge of materials (fabrics and trims), and colour design.
  • Excellent presentation skills of both design and final presentation
  • Demonstrates strong leadership and management skills
  • Extensive experience presenting Design and Concept to a cross-functional audience
  • Flexible, energetic and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Well organised and proficient in time management
  • High creative and able to bring a sensibility that merges both High Fashion and Technical wear.
  • Extensive experience working in partnership with Merchandising and Product Development
  • Anticipates market needs and how to prepare for them
  • Able to research and conceptualize independently across different styles of Shoes.
  • Has a critical eye on the market, runway and current trends
  • Brings newness to the design process through exploratory thinking and executing
  • Demonstrates creative ability that exceeds market expectations
  • Ability to work as a team and maintain a high level of professionalism and discretion
