JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Office of Student Affairs is searching for a Building Maintenance Worker to join their team. Duties include:

  • Set up rooms for meetings and other events by rearranging furniture, bringing furniture in or removing it; ensure that rooms are set up and cleaned prior to scheduled use; check with person in charge of meeting prior to meeting commencement to see if accommodations are appropriate
  • Check reservation cards daily and note appropriate set up; report any room schedule conflicts to building manager
  • Set up audio visual equipment in appropriate location and check to ensure it is operational
  • Set up and run video tape machine for video tape programs presented in the HUB
  • Operate various types of scrubbing and buffing equipment and hand tools as required
  • Sweep, scrub, strip, shine and wax various types of floors, floor coverings and furniture
  • Remove and/or relocate furniture, equipment, supplies and construction materials
  • Unload incoming materials and move to storage location
  • Maintain tools, equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition
  • Report unusual conditions to supervisor
  • Assist groups using HUB facilities; unload supplies, move supplies or materials to designated area, assist in construction of special props as required
  • Perform clean-up in various areas of the building as a result of accidental spills or extremely heavy usage
  • Shovel snow and chop ice, spread cinders, sand and other anti-skid materials on walk, entry ways and driveways, using small power or hand tools as required
  • Assist as required in crowd control for ticket sales and special waste
  • Clean fans and ventilation equipment; remove, clean and replace filters and change oil
  • Perform minor maintenance to drapes and blinds; replace cords, cables, mounting brackets, etc.
  • Perform minor maintenance to lavatory fixtures; replace faucet washers and packing, tighten handles, etc.
  • Repair or replace broken lavatory seats, soap dispensers, etc.
  • Perform minor repairs to lamps, sweepers, buffers; replace plugs, brushes, cords, etc.
  • Touch up paint and varnish damaged woodwork, furniture, etc.
  • Perform minor repairs to furnishings; patch seats, repair frames
  • Report damaged or defective equipment to supervisor
  • Position and reinforce staging platform sections, temporary room dividers and partitions as required

Job Requirements: Requires the use of commercial English, grammar and arithmetic such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division, including decimals and fractions; simple use of formulas, charts, tables, drawings, specifications, schedules, wiring diagrams, together with the use of adjustable measuring instruments, graduates and the like requiring interpretation in their various applications; or the posting, preparation, interpretation, use and checking of reports, forms, records and comparable data. Over 3 months up to and including 12 months of effective experience.

Work Schedule: 10:30 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.

Days Off: Thursday, Friday
