The role

Are you an Android Engineer with a passion for innovation and a desire to revolutionise the automotive industry? We are seeking a talented Android Engineer to help build our in-vehicle experiences. You’ll architect, develop, and support Android applications that communicate in real-time with our automotive AI systems, enabling the next generation of autonomous vehicles.

Key responsibilities:

  • Innovate and Create: Design, build, and maintain state-of-the-art Android applications for our in-vehicle systems.
  • Safety First: Stay ahead of the curve by keeping informed about safety and security implications, ensuring our solutions are robust and secure.
  • Collaborative Development: Work hand-in-hand with the robotics platform team to design intuitive and efficient API interfaces.
  • Experiment and Evolve: Implement new features to support continuous experimentation and accommodate hardware advancements.
  • Deploy and Optimise: Oversee the commissioning and rollout of applications, ensuring smooth integration and high performance.
  • Quality Assurance: Maintain rigorous standards of testing, observability, and monitoring to guarantee a seamless user experience.
  • Fleet Collaboration: Partner with fleet operations to ensure our applications work flawlessly in real-world scenarios.

About you

In order to set you up for success as an engineer at Wayve, we’re looking for the following skills and experience.

Essential

  • Android Expertise: A deep understanding of the Android ecosystem, including application architecture, OS security, and hardware integration.
  • Technical Proficiency: Strong skills in Linux-based environments and servers, with expertise in Kotlin and relevant development tools.
  • API Design: The ability to contribute to API design and make informed trade-offs.
  • Quality Focused: A strong commitment to testing, automation, and improving the developer experience.
  • User Engagement: A willingness to engage with real users and test changes directly in vehicles.
  • Security Conscious: A keen eye for security considerations and their practical implications.

Desirable

  • Familiarity with automotive systems and Android Auto.
  • Experience with gRPC or other strongly typed API interfaces.
  • Interest in robotics and AI.
  • Educational Background: A 4-year degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

We understand that everyone has a unique set of skills and experiences and that not everyone will meet all of the requirements listed above. If you’re passionate about self-driving cars and think you have what it takes to make a positive impact on the world, we encourage you to apply.

This is a full-time role based in our office in London. At Wayve we want the best of all worlds so we operate a hybrid working policy that combines time together in our offices and workshops to fuel innovation, culture, relationships and learning, and time spent working from home.
