As Commissioning Editor, you will be responsible for quality, effectiveness and efficiency across our content partnerships, with an emphasis on either Lifestyle, Travel or Sport. Working closely with a Commercial Editor it is your role to ensure your partnerships are as successful as possible – working with the Brand Partnerships Leads to win pitches, delivering the highest quality content and results that matter to clients, driving subscriptions, inspiring repeat bookings, managing editorial budgets and optimising the skills of the wider production team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Alongside a Commercial Editor you will proactively engage with clients and lead them in shaping quality ideas to ensure results that matter and content that can help drive subscriptions. You’ll be happy to make decisions with expert knowledge and insight and back those decisions in conversation with a Commercial Editor before commissioning content that delivers results. With guidance from a Commercial Editor you will oversee the quality and direction of all ideas and content for your campaigns at pitch, commissioning and delivery.
  • Manage your pages/digital content/videos, ensuring relevant colleagues are fully briefed. With a Commercial Editor’s input you’ll oversee to ensure every element hits the brief and is the best it can be when you sign it off at first and final proof.
  • Ensure that, with some support, all your EIP content is produced to brief, to first-class standards, to Telegraph house style and that deadlines are hit.
  • Edit your copy to first-class standards before it reaches the sub-editing stage of the process.
  • Work alongside Project Management to ensure your partnerships are running as proactively and efficiently as possible. Between you, a Commercial Editor and relevant sales colleagues – you will ensure every pitch and campaign in your sector is properly planned, costed and optimised.
  • You will work on campaigns across a variety of sectors
  • Responsible for managing, sourcing and negotiating talent to front campaigns ensuring we’re getting the most relevant talent at competitive rates.
  • Over time you will become ‘best in field’ with regards to: processes, client communications, contributing to sales pitches, compliance/legal issues, optimising SEO and use of relevant technology.
  • Work with sales colleagues to develop proactive sales ideas and to polish pitch decks.

Requirements

  • Proven editorial, organisational and communication skills.
  • First-class team player – self-motivated and proactive in making suggestions/improvements, finding solutions and relentlessly aiming for the highest-quality content and results that matter for clients – and inspiring others to do likewise.
  • Good contacts book of freelance writers.
  • Some client skills and experience, and a level of industry insight (commercial and editorial).
  • Some experience in terms of proactive content ideas, commissioning, editing and being integral across successful projects from pitch to PCA.
  • Comfortable working to tight deadlines and under pressure and have a can-do, problem-solving attitude.
